Normally, when you say artificial intelligence, it would typically conjure images of sleek servers and lightning-fast processing. But designer Max Park has taken a radically different approach. His project “Prompting Nowhere” transforms a vintage Singer treadle sewing machine into a thought-provoking AI system that challenges our assumptions about technology, labor, and human values.

The project draws its name and inspiration from William Morris’s 1890 utopian novel “News from Nowhere,” which envisioned an anti-industrialist society where craft and art formed the backbone of civilization . Morris, a pioneering figure in the British Arts and Crafts movement, was not only a renowned textile designer but also a poet, author, and socialist thinker who believed people should live enriched by beauty rather than enslaved by mechanization.

Uchronia’s ‘Paradox’ at Paul Bert Serpette for 2025 Fête des Puces

 

For the 2025 edition of the Fête des Puces, held at the Paul Bert Serpette market in Saint-Ouen, ParisFrance, Uchronia was invited to design this year’s thematic installation: Paradox. The collective, led by architect and designer Julien Sebban, developed a series of site-specific inflatable installations that transform the market’s entrances and interiors into a unified scenographic experience. 

 

Uchronia’s proposal examines the theme of paradox through material, scale, and typological contrast. The studio introduces monumental inflatable sculptures that reinterpret familiar architectural and domestic forms in unexpected ways. By using inflatables, lightweight, temporary, and luminous, the installations engage with ideas of permanence, transience, and reinterpretation, echoing the eclectic and ever-evolving character of the iconic antique market.

NINE Inflatable installations explore expressions of paradox

 

Each of the market’s three main entrances features a distinct installation exploring a different expression of paradox through form and function. Inflatable Antiquity: Classical columns and sculptural fragments, torsos, busts, and limbs, emerge from or break free of their architectural bases. The installation juxtaposes the stability of classical art with the impermanence of inflatable material, turning traditional symbols of endurance into light, mobile forms. Oversized Domestic Objects: Everyday vessels such as vases and amphorae are reinterpreted as monumental totems. Typically fragile and ornamental, these objects are scaled up and rendered in inflatable form, creating a visual dialogue between delicacy and exaggeration, intimacy and spectacle. Levitation Chairs: Chairs representing various design periods, from the Louis XIV era to the present, are suspended within translucent inflatable columns. The piece reframes utilitarian furniture as cultural artifacts, contrasting their practical origins with a museum-like mode of display. Together, these installations establish a visual and spatial rhythm across the market, connecting historical references with contemporary material experimentation. Through form and scale, the design by creative studio Uchronia challenges perceptions of weight, value, and authenticity, central notions to the flea market experience itself.

 

 

Uchronia reimagines familiar typologies through playful design

 

The inflatables, produced in reflective and translucent materials, respond to daylight and movement, transforming throughout the day. Their lightweight construction allows for rapid installation with minimal environmental impact, aligning with Uchronia’s interest in adaptable and temporary structures. Inside, ten curated stands, including those of Arthur Bruet, Galerie Vauclair, LVS Antiquités, Hugo Greiner, Galerie Glustin, and Remix Gallery, feature scenographies developed in collaboration with Uchronia. Each setting interprets the Paradox theme through combinations of instinct, chance, and historical layering, mirroring the unpredictability inherent to antique collecting. With Paradox, Uchronia continues its investigation into the spatial potential of inflatables, using softness, lightness, and scale as design tools to reimagine familiar typologies within contemporary contexts.

zagato designs ’01’ for capricorn debut

 

The capricorn 01 Zagato is the first road car from German motorsport firm capricorn Group, a company better known for supplying components to Formula 1 and endurance racing teams. Designed and built in collaboration with the legendary Italian coachbuilder Zagato, the car bridges two disciplines (precision engineering and sculptural craft) for a limited-production hypercar, only nineteen of which are set to be built.

The capricorn 01 Zagato sits low and self-contained, as if carved from a single piece of carbon fiber. Its Ford GT-esque lines flow without interruption, with a long front deck, pronounced haunches, and double bubble roof (a Zagato signature) that arches over the cabin. The design team has refined every contour for continuity, not for aggression. Air is drawn through subtle intakes that sit flush with the body, and the rear tapers inward around a wide diffuser that seems to pull the mass toward the ground.

 

There are no oversized spoilers or theatrical gestures. Instead, capricorn Group‘s 01 relies on the tension between surface and structure. Gullwing doors open upward with a clean, mechanical motion, revealing a cockpit framed by exposed carbon and narrow glass. It’s designed to be both contemporary and enduring, and the team at Zagato hopes it will age gracefully beside its more historic works.

Beneath the sculpted bodywork lies a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 developed by capricorn Group, tuned to deliver more than 900 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox, an intentional decision in a world dominated by dual-clutch systems.

 

The car weighs under 1,200 kilograms. capricorn Group engineered the chassis using carbon fiber throughout, paired with a double-wishbone suspension and adaptive dampers. Downforce is achieved through airflow sculpted beneath the car rather than on top of it, giving the body its calm, uninterrupted silhouette.

Inside, the capricorn 01 Zagato continues the same focus on essential form. The cabin is compact and spare, finished in exposed carbon, brushed aluminum, and Connolly leather. Three analog gauges dominate the instrument cluster on the dashboard, their needles sweeping across matte black dials. The steering wheel holds only two buttons (start and mode), leaving the rest to the driver.

The dream of the perfect mobile workstation often involves a series of compromises. You can have a powerful laptop, but you’re stuck with a single, small screen. You can bring a portable monitor, but that’s another device to pack, another cable to manage, and another stand to set up. For those who refuse to give up the satisfying feedback of a mechanical keyboard, that’s yet another piece of gear to haul. It seems the quest for productivity on the go is a constant battle against clutter. The WELDER keyboard is trying to solve this by merging these separate components into a single, surprisingly elegant package.

You still get your arrow keys and essential navigation without the bulk of a full-size board. Hot-swappable mechanical switches mean you can customize the typing feel without ever touching a soldering iron, swapping out switches based on preference or mood. The inclusion of PBT keycaps is a smart choice too, since they resist the shine and degradation that cheaper ABS caps develop after months of use. Then there’s the RGB lighting with 108 different modes, which borders on gaming territory, but having a backlit keyboard is always a plus in my book.

That 12.8-inch IPS panel up top is where things get interesting. The resolution is 1920 by 720, an unusual aspect ratio that makes perfect sense for this use case. It’s wide enough to comfortably fit a messaging app, a music player, documentation, or monitoring tools without feeling cramped. The display supports 10-point capacitive touch at 60Hz, and it functions exactly like any secondary monitor, you just drag windows from your main screen down to the keyboard. This makes it ideal for digital nomads, remote workers who hop between locations, or anyone who needs a serious multi-monitor setup but can’t rely on having a permanent desk.

Earth’s Embrace: An Organic Eco-Retreat in Wayanad

 

Set amidst a 4-acre hillside plantation in Wayanad, Kerala, India, Earth’s Embrace by Raving Dots Studio is both an eco-retreat and an architectural experiment in fusing computational design with vernacular wisdom. The project responds to two challenges: how to reconnect people with nature, and how to build with minimal ecological footprint. The form of the retreat is derived through parametric modeling, optimized to reduce surface area and material consumption while harmonizing with the site’s contours. The thin yet strong ferrocement shell structure allowed a sculptural enclosure with minimal resources. This shell is insulated with breathable mud plaster, balancing thermal comfort with natural tactility. Construction followed a philosophy of low-impact intervention: minimal cut-and-fill, orientation aligned with sunset views, and preservation of existing vegetation.

Inside, the spatial experience is meditative. Light filters in through carefully placed apertures, framing views of the plantation and sky, while the organic curves guide movement smoothly. Sustainability is embedded not only in form and material but also in environmental systems. The design integrates an Earth-Air Tunnel system for passive cooling, reducing reliance on mechanical conditioning. The cabin’s microclimate is further supported by preserved vegetation and natural ventilation paths shaped by the geometry itself. Earth’s Embrace represents a broader design ethos at Raving Dots Studio: to craft architecture that is simultaneously organic, computationally optimized, and deeply rooted in its ecological context. Rather than being a static object, the retreat is designed as a living participant in the landscape, one that will weather, adapt, and evolve with time.
