Concept jelly-like tactile companion TruTru can change its skin, temperature, and personalities when users touch it. A device created by JUE Design and Research Studio in collaboration with the Intelligent Human-Machine Mechanical Interface Lab at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the gadget is designed to work as a personal companion that interacts with its owner through touch. It uses haptics to produce physical sensations that feel like contact with different materials and movements. The concept object has a soft, rounded body made from translucent material, and its surface diffuses light that can show different brightness levels. The body houses sensors, temperature regulators, vibration modules, and a surface control system that adjusts texture and friction. 

 

These parts work together to create touch sensations such as softness, roughness, warmth, or rhythm. The outer shell contains layers that can slightly expand or contract to produce physical movement and temperature change. The concept jelly-like companion TruTru uses sensors and actuators to recreate textures found in nature and control vibration, temperature, and skin changes that imitate real materials such as wood, sand, stone, or fabric. It can also simulate movements like rain, water ripples, wind, or heartbeat using electrical control of micro-heaters, piezoelectric actuators, and friction pads (the surface can change between states in less than a second).

The concept jelly-like companion TruTru, which is a collaboration between JUE Design, Research Studio, and the IHMMI Lab, studies how touch can create emotional connection and well-being in a digital world where people often interact through screens. It operates through three preset modes: Companion Mode, Meditation Mode, and Sleep Mode. In Companion Mode, the device detects nearby movement with proximity sensors, and when someone approaches, its surface emits a faint glow that changes as distance decreases. When touched, the device produces tactile responses such as pulses, tremors, or soft temperature shifts. 

 

Meditation Mode produces slow, continuous tactile sequences similar to breathing or heartbeat. These vibration and warmth patterns are designed to help the user focus on body awareness. Sleep Mode helps the users get some rest by lowering its temperature between 33°C and 35°C, a range that matches natural skin warmth. In this mode, users can hold the gadget, and the device reduces light emission and operates with long, low-frequency pulses that imitate calm breathing. Users can create their own Custom Modes using the dedicated app, and here they can also adjust TruTru’s vibration strength, rhythm, temperature, and light patterns.

Four personalities with distinct light and vibration settings

 

The device comes with several characters or personalities with distinct response behaviors. These versions are called Huu TruTru, Wuu TruTru, Shu TruTru, and Muu TruTru. Each version has a preset tactile personality. Huu produces spontaneous tactile responses and frequent vibration changes, while Wuu gives minimal response with lighter tremors. There’s Shu, which uses light signals to invite interaction and Muu, which keeps a consistent rhythm across all modes. The gadget is also modular and includes a main body and detachable arms. The arms can be replaced with different strap types and attachment systems, and this detachable design allows the concept jelly-like companion TruTru to be held in the hand, clipped to a bag, worn across the body, or placed nearby.  It can also be used in different environments, such as at home, at work, while traveling, or in therapy sessions. 

 

Each arm contains connectors that pass data and power, so the device continues to operate in any configuration. The design includes a lighting system under the translucent surface, acting as feedback signals that show the device’s state. For example, soft pulses may show rest mode, while steady light may indicate active mode. The light also works as a communication channel, signaling readiness or reaction to touch. When not in use, the device dims automatically to save energy. The concept jelly-like companion TruTru works by touching it instead of buttons or screens. A double tap activates or changes tactile feedback. A shake switches between modes. If the device detects no interaction for a set time, it enters sleep mode. Another gentle shake reactivates it. In this time of digital screens, a physical companion device like TruTru can allow users to stay in touch with the real world.

The Hyundai Stellar Reboot We All Deserve Is Finally Here (But It’s Not Real)

Hyundai’s been playing with pixelated lighting since the Ioniq 5 dropped in 2021, and honestly, it’s one of the few genuinely fresh design languages to emerge from a major automaker in the last decade. Those blocky LED clusters became instantly recognizable, a rare feat in an industry where most headlights look like angry origami. So when I stumbled across the Second Star project on Behance, a fan-made concept inspired by the obscure 1980s Hyundai Stellar, the first thing that grabbed me was how confidently it runs with that same pixel vocabulary. Exterior designer Hyun Been Kye and interior designer Chris Min spent three weeks building this in Blender and Maya, and the result is better than half the heritage concepts coming out of actual OEM studios.

The Stellar itself is a footnote in automotive history, a boxy sedan that barely registered outside Korea. That obscurity is exactly what makes it perfect source material because there’s no sacred silhouette to preserve, no angry purists to appease. Kye took the basic wedge proportions and reimagined the whole thing through a digital lens. The front end is dominated by a full-width grid of rectangular LEDs that function as both headlights and the car’s primary visual signature. It’s clearly descended from the Ioniq 5’s lighting treatment but pushed further into abstraction. The grid pattern isn’t trying to mimic traditional lamp shapes, it commits fully to looking like a computer display wrapped around the nose of a car.

The proportions walk a tricky line between 1980s geometry and modern expectations. The roofline sits tall and upright in a way that would horrify aerodynamicists, but the designers leaned into the boxy aesthetic rather than trying to smooth it over with contemporary curves. There’s a single sharp character line running from the front fender to the rear quarter, and the surfaces stay taut instead of getting bloated the way retro revivals often do. The fastback rear end adds some motion to what could’ve been a very static three-box shape. Those five vertical LED strips in the tail echo the pixelated front-end treatment and create a memorable rear view without resorting to the fake diffusers and exhaust outlets cluttering up most concept cars these days.

The wheels deserve their own discussion because they’re either brilliant or completely impractical depending on your tolerance for form over function. Semi-enclosed disc designs with grid cutouts match the pixel language running through the rest of the car, and that visual consistency is what separates decent design work from stuff that actually lands. In reality, wheels like this are terrible for brake cooling and add unsprung weight, but this is a render exercise, not an engineering proposal. The matte black finish grounds the metallic silver body and prevents it from looking too floaty. The contrast gives the design some punch without going full murdered-out, and the wheel pattern matching the headlamp grid shows obsessive attention to detail.

 

The side profile stays cleaner than I expected given the 1980s inspiration. Flush-mounted door handles are standard concept car fare at this point, but the execution here is subtle enough that it doesn’t scream for attention. The window graphics are sharp and the beltline rises toward the rear, giving the car a forward-leaning stance that keeps it from looking too upright and boxy. You can see hints of Hyundai’s Prophecy concept in how the body sides are treated as a single continuous volume with minimal interruption. The Second Star feels more aggressive thanks to those sharper window angles and the kicked-up rear quarter, but it maintains that smooth, unbroken surfacing that makes modern renders look so appealing.

The interior is where things get bold. Deep red upholstery dominates every surface, from the quilted seats to the ribbed door panels, and it’s saturated enough to feel deliberate rather than garish. The dashboard continues the horizontal pixel theme with textured surfaces and integrated screens, and there’s a yoke-style steering wheel that looks more functional than Tesla’s version thanks to better-defined grip zones. A small floating shelf beside the passenger seat holds a potted plant, which is peak concept car whimsy and would never survive a production safety review. The detail that really sells the interior, though, is the vintage Stellar photo displayed on the center screen. It’s a smart way to acknowledge the heritage without turning the whole cabin into a retro pastiche.

The rear bench looks lounge-like and comfortable, the kind of seating you’d expect in an autonomous-future concept. A full-length glass roof reinforces the open, airy vibe, and there’s almost no conventional instrumentation visible anywhere. The designers are clearly imagining this as either fully autonomous or radically simplified in terms of driver interface, which is a convenient way to avoid the hard problem of designing actual controls. Given the three-week timeline, focusing on big visual gestures instead of functional minutiae makes sense. The pixel motif integrates into the door panels and seat backs, and white trim around the seats keeps the red from feeling too oppressive. It’s a bold interior that probably wouldn’t age well in real life, but as a design statement, it absolutely works.

The Second Star isn’t going to influence production cars anytime soon, and it’s not trying to. What it does do is prove there’s still unexplored territory in retro-futurism if you’re willing to dig past the usual suspects. Kye and Min clearly understand that successful heritage design requires more than surface-level callbacks. You need a coherent visual language that carries through every detail, from the headlights to the door trim to the wheel pattern. The fact that they pulled this off in three weeks using student-level tools is both impressive and slightly embarrassing for studios with far bigger budgets. If Hyundai’s smart, they’ll at least take note of how well this pixel language scales across an entire vehicle when you commit to it fully.

Danish architecture studio COBE has revealed its thoughtful design for Museum Wegner, a new cultural institution that will celebrate the life and legacy of Hans J. Wegner, the legendary furniture designer known worldwide as “the Master of the Chair.” Set to rise in the marshlands outside Tönder—Wegner’s childhood hometown where he first trained as a carpenter—the museum represents both an architectural achievement and a poignant homecoming for Denmark’s design heritage.

The 5,000-square-meter museum will transform a pair of historic farm buildings dating back to 1445, weaving together centuries of craftsmanship tradition with contemporary architectural innovation. “The ambition with Museum Wegner is to pay tribute to an absolute legend in Danish design,” the studio explains, noting that Denmark currently has only two museums dedicated to Danish design—a gap this new institution aims to fill. The project’s significance extends beyond mere exhibition space; it embodies the very principles that made Wegner’s furniture internationally acclaimed.

Inspired by the symbiotic relationship between coral and algae, Ulrim’s The Coral is a wall-mounted indoor micro-algae farm designed to integrate wellness and sustainability into daily life. In nature, coral provides algae with shelter and compounds for photosynthesis, while algae supply oxygen and nutrients that sustain reef ecosystems. Translating this cycle into a domestic setting, The Coral uses a bioreactor to cultivate algae in a controlled environment, enabling efficient photosynthesis and nutrient production within 16 modular cell blocks.

Each cell block holds two grams of algae, darkening to a deep blue-green over two weeks, indicating peak nutrient density for consumption as a daily supplement. The gradient tones across the structure reflect the living growth process, merging function with aesthetic appeal. As algae gain recognition as a nutrient-rich superfood, The Coral offers a practical, sustainable way to harvest it at home, blending biomimicry, health benefits, and elegant design into a single, product.

The life cycle of coral reefs showcases nature’s mastery of sustainable resource use. Corals transform ocean minerals into intricate structures, building thriving habitats for diverse marine life. Closed-loop systems and upcycling not only shrink our environmental impact but also produce goods with stories of renewal, creativity, and responsible design embedded in every piece.

Industrial designer Mary Lempres, in partnership with bio-geotechnical specialist Ahmed Miftah, has created Reef Rocket, a bio-cement structure modeled on the resilience and ecological functions of oyster reefs. Intended to mitigate coastal flooding, filter seawater, and promote biodiversity, the design features two ridged modules that stack into a rocket-like form when deployed underwater. The bio-cement is produced by applying a plant-derived, non-toxic solution to crushed glass and oyster shells sourced from New York City waste streams. Designer Reimagines AI Through Victorian Craft Philosophy

Normally, when you say artificial intelligence, it would typically conjure images of sleek servers and lightning-fast processing. But designer Max Park has taken a radically different approach. His project “Prompting Nowhere” transforms a vintage Singer treadle sewing machine into a thought-provoking AI system that challenges our assumptions about technology, labor, and human values.

The project draws its name and inspiration from William Morris’s 1890 utopian novel “News from Nowhere,” which envisioned an anti-industrialist society where craft and art formed the backbone of civilization . Morris, a pioneering figure in the British Arts and Crafts movement, was not only a renowned textile designer but also a poet, author, and socialist thinker who believed people should live enriched by beauty rather than enslaved by mechanization.

Park’s creation represents a fascinating fusion of old and new technologies. He modified the vintage sewing machine so that the foot pedal powers a computer instead of driving stitches through fabric. Uchronia’s ‘Paradox’ at Paul Bert Serpette for 2025 Fête des Puces

 

For the 2025 edition of the Fête des Puces, held at the Paul Bert Serpette market in Saint-Ouen, ParisFrance, Uchronia was invited to design this year’s thematic installation: Paradox. The collective, led by architect and designer Julien Sebban, developed a series of site-specific inflatable installations that transform the market’s entrances and interiors into a unified scenographic experience. 

 

Uchronia’s proposal examines the theme of paradox through material, scale, and typological contrast. The studio introduces monumental inflatable sculptures that reinterpret familiar architectural and domestic forms in unexpected ways. By using inflatables, lightweight, temporary, and luminous, the installations engage with ideas of permanence, transience, and reinterpretation, echoing the eclectic and ever-evolving character of the iconic antique market.

NINE Inflatable installations explore expressions of paradox

 

Each of the market’s three main entrances features a distinct installation exploring a different expression of paradox through form and function. Inflatable Antiquity: Classical columns and sculptural fragments, torsos, busts, and limbs, emerge from or break free of their architectural bases. The installation juxtaposes the stability of classical art with the impermanence of inflatable material, turning traditional symbols of endurance into light, mobile forms. Oversized Domestic Objects: Everyday vessels such as vases and amphorae are reinterpreted as monumental totems. Typically fragile and ornamental, these objects are scaled up and rendered in inflatable form, creating a visual dialogue between delicacy and exaggeration, intimacy and spectacle. Levitation Chairs: Chairs representing various design periods, from the Louis XIV era to the present, are suspended within translucent inflatable columns. The piece reframes utilitarian furniture as cultural artifacts, contrasting their practical origins with a museum-like mode of display. Together, these installations establish a visual and spatial rhythm across the market, connecting historical references with contemporary material experimentation. Through form and scale, the design by creative studio Uchronia challenges perceptions of weight, value, and authenticity, central notions to the flea market experience itself.

 

 

Uchronia reimagines familiar typologies through playful design

 

The inflatables, produced in reflective and translucent materials, respond to daylight and movement, transforming throughout the day. Their lightweight construction allows for rapid installation with minimal environmental impact, aligning with Uchronia’s interest in adaptable and temporary structures. Inside, ten curated stands, including those of Arthur Bruet, Galerie Vauclair, LVS Antiquités, Hugo Greiner, Galerie Glustin, and Remix Gallery, feature scenographies developed in collaboration with Uchronia. Each setting interprets the Paradox theme through combinations of instinct, chance, and historical layering, mirroring the unpredictability inherent to antique collecting. With Paradox, Uchronia continues its investigation into the spatial potential of inflatables, using softness, lightness, and scale as design tools to reimagine familiar typologies within contemporary contexts.
