The Iconic “Homer Simpson In The Bushes” Meme got turned into an Animated LEGO Set

Do I really need to explain this absolute cult icon? Even if you haven’t seen an episode of The Simpsons, chances are you vividly remember seeing this GIF somewhere on the internet as a symbol for exiting an awkward situation. The ‘Homer Simpson Vanishing Into The Bushes’ meme has no text, no context, but it’s filled with meaning… and now the digital meme has a physical version too.

Built by JK Brickworks, this LEGO MOC (My Own Creation) revives that iconic moment, but entirely in LEGO. It uses a concealed set of gears and a motor to move a Homer Simpson minifigure back and forth, while the bushes actually open and close to allow Homer to make his entry and exit, just like the GIF!

The build is simple on the outside, but genius when you dissect it. It requires just 227 parts (a paltry amount for most LEGO builds), but has perhaps one of the most clever mechanisms I’ve seen. Gears hidden under the lawn allow Homer to move forward and backward, while gears hidden in the bushes cause the leaves to rotate, either closing shut or opening to reveal Homer hiding in the thickets.

“This model was designed in collaboration with Dustin Lebel, a fellow ParLUGment member,” JK Brickworks says. “When he brought his original to a meeting a few months ago, I was blown away with his novel approach for separating the leaves. The result is a nice compact model, making a great little desktop display.”

The result? A literal meme brought to life. I saw the build on Instagram and instantly knew I had to share it on the YD website just because of how iconic it was. Arguably, the only other LEGO build that can compare to this level of legendary status is the LEGO MOC of the “This Is Fine” meme with the dog sitting in the burning room.

If this build excites you as much as it did me, JK Brickworks is actually selling kits online that you can buy and build. A detailed PDF costs around $3.50 USD, but if you want the entire kit with the bricks and the Homer Simpsons minifigure, be prepared to shell out close to $65 USD. But tell me, though, can you really put a price tag on one of the internet’s most iconic moments??

First Look: Air Jordan 14 “Ferrari” is making glorious comeback in June, first time since 2014

One thing is undeniably true. Air Jordan has a league of fans and collectors that would not let an opportunity go begging to own a pair of the Nike sneakers. As a matter of fact, each Jordan from the past has a taker. Aftermarket is saturated with high-priced silhouettes, and a favorite amid them is the Air Jordan 14 “Ferrari.” If you’re a fan, now in 2025, you have a glorious chance to stop scouting through the aftermarket shelves instead of owning one at a more justified tag.

This is possible as the AJ14 Ferrari is making an official comeback. If all goes as planned, it’s coming out as soon as next month. A considerable piece of Air Jordan history, the sneaker is going to be part of the few other sneakers – including the Air Jordan 1 in its 40th anniversary celebration – releasing this year. Fan-favorite on the cards, in the near future, is of course, the AJ14 Ferrari and there is no shying away from its glamorous red!

The information of Air Jordan 14 “Ferrari” making a triumphant return has been doing the rounds for a while, but now, for the first time, there is a release date and a price tag to go with it. Of course, the impressive official images further add substance to the hearsay that has kept us guessing all this while. The silhouette first hit the streets September 6th, 2014, at the price of $200 and become an instant hit for its all-red colorway and the dominating Ferrari looks. Its popularity has dented little ever since – even though it’s not an OG colorway – and this is a well-deserved comeback.

AJ14’s uncanny resemblance to a Ferrari is not evocative of its Rosso Corsa (racing red colorway); in fact, it is inspired by Michael Jordan’s Ferrari 550 Maranello. Tinker Hatfield took inspiration from Ferrari when designing the shoe therefore, the sleek lines and impressive Ferrari sports car details make this high-octane red, yellow, and black sneaker a fan-favorite.

The Air Jordan 14 “Ferrari” is slated to release on June 11, 2025. It will cost $210 for adult sizes and is likely to arrive in grade school sizing, starting at $160. The upcoming release of the sneaker will ensure fans can grab a pair without the hefty aftermarket pricing in the same signature red suede upper and the distinguishing black carbon fiber treatments on the midsole. The sneaker will feature a Ferrari-inspired Jumpman logo on the side in yellow color, and a similar color Jumpman logo and number 23 in yellow on the heel counter. This Google MacroPad Allows Boomers To Attend Meetings Without Accidental Muted Mics

The world has moved on, but I’m sure Jeffrey Toobin still remembers that horrific day when he got caught in an indecent act on a video call because he accidentally left his camera open. The CNN anchor came under the ire of the internet that day, and to be honest, I don’t blame him – I blame the tech. Each video app has a separate UI, each one requires understanding and mastering, and you really can’t expect non-tech-personnel to master the interface of multiple different video chatting apps.

For news anchors, their job is to be in front of the camera… not control it. However, the pandemic forced a lot of people to have to learn new apps to navigate the new WFH lifestyle. Even today, boomers struggle with new technology that updates every month, if not every week. So that’s why the Google Boomer is the perfect device for the tech-illiterate (that isn’t a bad thing, btw). It puts physical controls in the hands of users, so switching on or off the mic or the video is as easy as switching on a light or fan at home. It’s tactile, intuitive, and doesn’t rely on the coldness of virtual interfaces.

The entire device can be boiled down to 4 sliders. That’s all you really need. One controls system volume, the others are like switches that you can toggle on or off. The top handles video, the middle handles screen-sharing, and the bottom handles the microphone. You can visually tell if a switch is on or off, helping you troubleshoot during video calls without peering into a screen or looking for a setting that you accidentally touched without realizing.

If the iconography of the buttons wasn’t intuitive enough, the macro-pad comes with a lid that has instructions printed on it too. Open the lid, and it literally becomes a user manual of sorts, helping users understand what button does what. Foolproof in every possible way, so that you don’t accidentally go through an entire meeting with the mic off and no way of knowing the mic’s off.

The macro-pad was designed by Silvia Caracristi, following probably a lot of failed attempts at video calls with their relatives or older colleagues at work. The product’s four-button layout pairs with the four-color Google logo perfectly, which, against the macro-pad’s white background, stands out wonderfully… while also simultaneously looking like something Google would absolutely launch! (In fact, they should)

‘we all can do more with less’: oshinowo studio brings lagos’ markets to the venice biennale

Lagos-based architecture practice Oshinowo Studio brings ‘Alternative Urbanism: self-organising markets of Lagos‘ to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, spotlighting three of the city’s most dynamic informal markets—Ladipo, Computer Village, and Katangua. Invited by curator Carlo Ratti to respond to his circular economy manifesto, the studio explores how these systems repurpose waste from the global north into valuable goods, offering a powerful model of embedded circularity. ‘These markets don’t work just as places of commerce and exchange,’ notes founder Tosin Oshinowo in an exclusive interview with designboom. ‘What is fascinating is the factory-like process that occurs when a source material is re-appropriated and adapted through different sectors in these markets,’ she tells us. Through immersive film, photography, data visualisations, and recycled denim maps crafted in Katangua, the exhibition reframes Lagos’s markets as complex infrastructures of ingenuity, shaped by scarcity and sustained by collective intelligence.

 

Rejecting voyeuristic representations of African spaces, the installation at the Arsenale avoids still images of deprivation and instead offers a technical view into the working mechanics of these markets. ‘It was important that the narrative be optimistic; after all, I live and work in Lagos,’ Oshinowo says. ‘I do not see what happens here as backwards or deprived; I see this as fascinating, innovative, and the other extreme of global capitalism,’ she adds. With her team’s mapping, video documentation, and textile production done within Katangua, the pavilion elevates local material knowledge to an international stage. In doing so, it delivers a clear message to Biennale visitors.‘The biggest lesson and shift in perspective I hope to share and inspire with this global audience is that we all can do more with less,’ Tosin Oshinowo suggests.

Ladipo Market deals in second-hand car parts; Computer Village in used electronics; and Katangua in recycled fashion. While their contents differ, their shared value lies in how they extend the life of consumer goods through a communal network of reuse, repair, and resale. ‘These specialist markets emerge across the city in white and brown-fill sites, residential zones, and defunct industrial parks,’ Tosin Oshinowo shares with designboom. ‘Through a collective intelligence, the city operates at a sophisticated level outside of orthodox methodologies and functions at scale without the expected industrialized infrastructure.’ Her exhibition doesn’t romanticize the struggle but rather reframes Lagos’s informal urban systems as prototypes for sustainable cities—systems built from adaptation, making them increasingly relevant in a time of global resource scarcity.

 

As Oshinowo explains, these spaces represent ‘a glimpse into an urban condition without imperialism, colonialism, and modernism imposed on the continent.’ Far from being symbols of deprivation, the markets are framed as energetic ecosystems shaped by ‘bottom-up structures and soft-power systems.’ Located in areas ranging from residential zones to defunct industrial parks, each market illustrates the kind of grassroots adaptability often excluded from conventional urban planning. With Nigeria’s currency devalued by 700% since 2005 and most of the population living on under $2 a day, these markets respond with a resilience that blends necessity with aspiration. ‘The majority of Africa is urbanized but not industrialized,’ the Lagos-based architect explains. ‘This situation creates an urban condition that is alternative to conventional expectations of progress and development.’ Read on for our full interview with Tosin Oshinowo.

designboom (DB): Alternative Urbanism is a powerful title—how does it reflect your view of Lagos’s informal markets, and in what ways do they challenge conventional models of urban planning and sustainability?

 

Tosin Oshinowo (TO): The title is impactful; however, it simply states a reality that occurs as parallel development with the rest of the world. The majority of Africa is urbanized but not industrialized, and this situation creates an urban condition that is alternative to conventional expectations of progress and development. This research project uses the informal market as an entry point to understand this condition. Lagos is a heightened example of this condition because of its critical mass—the city has 0.3% of Nigeria’s surface area and 10% of its population, 26.4 million. With insufficient industrialized infrastructure, it is challenging to manage the city structurally. This density allows us to observe this condition in concentration. These markets happen when bottom-up structures and soft-power systems come to the foreground.

 

Rem Koolhaas’ research in the late 1990s and early 2000s observed that the urban condition in Lagos defied orthodox planning methodologies. Here, I suggest that instead of defying these methodologies, what we observe in the city condition reverts to an evolution from tradition. It could be considered a glimpse into an urban condition without imperialism, colonialism, and modernism imposed on the continent. The informal African market is the most unadulterated urban artifact of our city’s developmental framework. It is the fabric of the commons, a shared space everyone contributes to and shares in its benefits. The markets operate in a capitalist model and outside of it. The markets have evolved from pre-colonial times to their present state in the post-colonial African city. Holding more than just places of commerce and exchange, but also of divine importance. In Yorùbá culture from southwest Nigeria, the market holds divine significance in mythology as it is seen as the point of final departure for the soul from the earth (ilé) as it rightfully returns to the heavens (òrun).

DB: Carlo Ratti’s circular economy manifesto set the tone for this year’s Biennale. How did it resonate with your existing observations of Lagos, and what discoveries emerged from your research into these self-organizing markets?

 

TO: When I first read Carlo Ratti’s manifesto, I was excited that this research resonated with the theme and perfect timing. There is nothing more euphoric than realizing that you are part of a change movement. Circularity has been a long-standing practice in regions that deal with austerity. It is encouraging that there is a growing understanding globally that we all need to embody this methodology. When I started the research on the markets, it was initially out of an interest to understand how global south cities function at scale with inadequate infrastructure.

 

As I developed this narrative, I observed how sophisticated the system of markets and circularity is embedded into commerce and city life. I observed that due to Nigeria’s challenged economic condition and the reality of desires to live in modernity, capital-intensive consumer products are outside of the immediate reach of the average Nigerian consumer, with the Nigerian Naira devalued by 700% since 2005. These markets don’t work just as places of commerce and exchange. Several specialist markets sell second-hand products considered redundant from the global north. What is fascinating is the factory-like process that occurs when a source material is re-appropriated and adapted through different sectors in these markets. These markets effectively take waste from the global north and extend product life while producing less carbon.

DB: Ladipo, Computer Village, and Katangua each represent a different kind of circular ingenuity. Why these three, and what do they collectively reveal about resilience and resourcefulness in urban Nigeria?

 

TO: So far, the research has documented 80+ specialist markets, as the convergence of like-for-like across the city’s urban fabric has been fascinating. I selected these three markets for the exhibition because their content deals with circularity. Like all markets, they deal with consumer goods, but these three represent staples of modernity. And the opportunity for people in these regions to afford capital-intensive consumer goods like cars, electronics, and clothes. Where does the hyperconsumerist global north dispose of its waste? Today, two-thirds of Nigerians live on less than $2 a day. These conditions create the fertile ground to harbor this kind of circularity not seen before structural adjustment programs imposed on the global south from the mid-1980s and early 1990s.

DB: Your pavilion merges data, video, and recycled textiles to evoke the atmosphere of the markets. How did you navigate the challenge of capturing their energy and complexity within the formal setting of the Arsenale?

 

TO: It was challenging, particularly because I was mindful not to share this as a narrative of deprivation, which can easily come across by using still images from Africa. It was important that the narrative be optimistic; after all, I live and work in Lagos. I do not see what happens here as backwards or deprived; I see this as fascinating, innovative, and the other extreme of global capitalism.

 

The essence of the immersive film of the market captured a narrative of intense activity and optimism. It was a great privilege for the team to have access to film and photograph these spaces, and we do not take for granted the immense trust we have been given. It was also important that this did not become just an immersive film; we wanted to ensure that we showed a technical prowess to document the urban condition of these markets, which we showed through a series of mappings taken of each market and its surrounding urban fabric. The medium we used to show these was heat-transfer graphics placed in recycled denim patchwork, all produced in the Katangua market. Coupled with pause moments captured through photography, it created a visual language that was intriguing and enigmatic in its context.

DB: The notion of ‘communal intelligence’ underpins your curatorial narrative. How do these markets embody that idea, and what lessons might formal design systems draw from it?

 

TO: The specialist markets in Lagos are informal; the state does not plan them, and they have emerged due to specific conducive political, social, and economic conditions. These markets as individual nodes have clear governing and management structures. Still, observing from the macro level, it’s fascinating to see that through a collective intelligence, the city operates at a sophisticated level outside of orthodox methodologies and functions at scale without the expected industrialized infrastructure. It is outside of conventional ways of thinking about the modern city, which tends to be the top-down result of the collective few. These specialist markets emerge across the city in white and brown-fill sites, residential zones, and defunct industrial parks. These markets resonate with the theme of communal intelligence, highlighting the system that speaks to an alternative urbanism, which contributes sparingly to our global carbon challenge in their operation and an optimistic conversation on circularity.

DB: With a global audience in Venice, what shifts in perception about African cities—especially Lagos—do you hope this exhibition might provoke or inspire?

 

TO: The world can learn a lot from African cities. This region, which is the least industrialized yet urbanized, contributes the least to global carbon emissions while suffering some of the most severe damage. The biggest lesson and shift in perspective I hope to share and inspire with this global audience is that we all can do more with less.

The hinge lets Tailor look attentive or bashful, depending on the mood of the exchange, and its digital face keeps things simple and inviting.

The Tail AI system that powers Tailor is designed to roam across your digital life, but this robot concept gives it a real seat at the table, literally. It’s easy to imagine Tailor quietly keeping you company, responding with subtle gestures whether you’re asking for the weather or searching for a lost file. The physicality of the robot bridges the gap between abstract AI and the tangible world you can actually touch.

There’s a playful side to Tailor, too. Watching it react to your voice with a tilt or a nod feels like a secret handshake between you and your gadget. When Hisense announced their 2025 U8QG lineup, I immediately set my sights on the massive 100-inch model. After replacing my 65-inch CanvasTV in my sunroom, I can confidently say this television delivers an experience that transforms how I enjoy everything from Formula 1 racing to NHL playoffs. The sheer scale, combined with cutting-edge Mini-LED technology, creates an immersive viewing experience that smaller screens simply cannot match.

Television reviews often focus exclusively on technical specifications and benchmark results. While these measurements matter, they fail to capture the emotional impact of bringing a cinema-sized display into your home. My experience with the 100U8QG has been deeply personal, changing not just what I watch but how I experience entertainment in my daily life.

The Imposing Presence That Transforms My Space

What immediately struck me about the 100U8QG is how Hisense has managed to keep the bezels remarkably thin despite the enormous screen size. The nearly borderless design creates a floating image effect that enhances the immersive quality of everything I watch. The minimalist aesthetic extends to the entire chassis, featuring clean lines and a premium finish that appears sophisticated without detracting from the screen itself.

Installing a 100-inch television might sound intimidating, but my brother and I managed the entire process with surprising ease. The 100U8QG weighs 157.2 pounds without its stand, making it substantial but still manageable for two people. We purchased HangSmart TV Wall Mount hooks from Amazon that were specifically rated for displays of this size. At first, I was highly skeptical about the simplicity of the design and even checked with my Hisense contact to ensure they would work properly. Despite the “scary” appearance of such a straightforward mounting solution for such a massive display, they provided the necessary support and peace of mind.

The mounting process required precision, as it took us three attempts to thread the two small holes correctly; however, the end result was worth the effort. Once secured to the wall, the effect is surreal – the massive screen appears to levitate against the wall, creating a much more impressive visual statement than using the included legs. This floating appearance transforms the entire character of my sunroom, making the television feel like an architectural element rather than simply a piece of technology.

Port placement deserves particular praise, with four HDMI inputs (two supporting the full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 specification) positioned for easy access even when wall-mounted. The side-facing ports allowed me to connect my Apple TV 4K, PlayStation 5, and cable box without awkwardly reaching behind the display. This thoughtful design choice makes a significant difference in day-to-day usability, especially for a screen of this size where access would otherwise be challenging.

My sunroom presents a challenging environment for any television, with 80% of the wall being windows from top to bottom. Thankfully, the 100U8QG’s anti-glare coating performs admirably, minimizing reflections even during bright daylight hours. This capability has completely changed how I use the space, allowing me to enjoy daytime viewing without closing blinds or curtains.

With a native 165Hz refresh rate and sophisticated motion processing, the U8QG delivers exceptional clarity during fast-moving content. Formula 1 cars reaching speeds over 200mph remain sharp and detailed, with none of the motion blur or judder that compromises the viewing experience on lesser displays. I witnessed this firsthand during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at Jeddah Corniche Circuit, where the rapid direction changes through the street circuit’s tight S-curves remained perfectly clear. The television’s 480Hz Motion Rate technology further enhances this capability, creating smooth panning shots without introducing the artificial “soap opera effect” that plagues many motion enhancement systems.

The Monaco Grand Prix provided another perfect showcase for the 100U8QG’s capabilities. Lesser displays crush these dark sections into an indistinguishable blur, but the U8QG maintained exceptional detail throughout the entire sequence. Watching Lando Norris take the victory was glorious – I could see every spec of champagne during the celebration with crystal clarity. YouTuber builds a fully functional invisible Chair PC and you can sit on it

If you’ve always taken the experience of sitting on your chair for granted, never realizing the possibilities of how different it would be if there was a PC built into it and placed right underneath your rear. It’s time to give it a calculated thought. For what you see above is not a chair, of course, it is a chair, but it’s slightly more: it’s a fully-functional desktop PC that’s built right into the seat of this chair (technically just below).

This is not the first time that we are seeing a PC mod, and perhaps not the last either. Amid the most fascinating ones I have seen in the past decade, this has to be the non-existent one, for a good reason. To be a concealed PC, it had to go through some stinker challenges. Be in there in the seat, yet be functional like a desktop PC, and have no dangling wires. How has all that been pulled off, let’s delve deeper into it below:

Designer: Basically Homeless

The information about building this “World’s First Invisible Chair PC” project has been released in a detailed video on YouTube by the creator, Basically Homeless, who believes ‘building PCs is basically expensive LEGOs for men.’ With that thought, it is a verified channel known for DIYing uncanny computer mods and robots amid other generic creations. Being one of those people who really want to sit on the chair with a remote and do… well let the modder tell you what… he has really pulled this off to a level of brilliance where an entire functional PC setup – with motherboard, GPU and the SMPC – is consolidated inside of your chair and both do their primary job with undisturbed efficiency.

Some would, including me, argue about the fact that some compromises must have been made to conceive a completely hidden-from-sight mod. Not really: this chair PC – if I may – is powered by a Ryzen 7 9800XD desktop processor and an RTX 4060 GPU, both sitting flat next to each other with an SMPC in company. It all fits well within a specially created secret compartment where the seat mechanism meets the underside of the seat cushion supporting material. A special 50mm high cavity is created using aluminum standoffs, where the complete hardware is sandwiched and closed with a 3D-printed housing.

The wonderful thing about this contraption is that it is completely hidden from sight. Of course, if you have seen other gaming/office chairs like this one used for the mod, you will figure out the slight bulge under the seat, but that’s for you. For the unaware, there is no significant difference, and that’s substantiated by the fact that you can lean back all the way in the chair, and it does not impact the parts of the computer you are sitting on. The hot seat can be used with a wireless monitor (if you don’t mind a 10ms latency), else strap on a VR headset instead and connect it to the chair PC and enjoy!

Studio Sangath approached the residential project with quiet attentiveness, designing a retreat that prioritizes stillness and intimacy with the surrounding topography. Tucked into a bend in the Sabarmati River’s landscape, the house offers its residents a reprieve from the acceleration of city life, but also extends its welcome to artists, writers, and filmmakers seeking time away to create.

 

At the core of the brick and terracotta residence is a courtyard that both divides and anchors the interior spaces. The inner garden draws the horizon inward, reframing nature as a constant companion rather than a distant view. This spatial arrangement extends outward into a stepped terrace that spills into the surrounding terrain, intended to host everything from quiet evenings under the sky to informal performances. Studio Sangath’s design orients the home to receive the landscape with open arms, dissolving barriers between shelter and scenery.
