Ecovacs Unveils Deebot X11 OmniCyclone: A New Era in Smart Cleaning

Ecovacs has officially launched the Deebot X11 OmniCyclone, its most advanced and visually ambitious robot vacuum and mop, revealed at IFA 2025 in Berlin. More than a refresh, the X11 is a bold rethinking of what a home cleaning robot can be, with a unique bagless station, a wealth of new technology, and a focus on both style and sustainability.

The X11 OmniCyclone features a striking, architectural look and the brand’s first bagless, auto-emptying OMNI station. This move eliminates disposable dust bags, making cleaning more sustainable and convenient. David Qian, CEO of Ecovacs, highlighted the company’s roots in environmental thinking, explaining that the brand name was chosen to reflect ecological values and a dedication to vacuum innovation. “When we first started the brand, we always had this idea knowing the future needs to be sustainable,” Qian shared.

Ecovacs’ user-centered philosophy is at the heart of the X11’s design. The company always develops its products with real users in mind, striving to understand the lives, routines, and needs of the people who bring these devices into their homes. David Qian is personally committed to this approach, often visiting customers’ homes without revealing his identity to observe how Ecovacs products are used and to listen to honest feedback.

The X11’s design is a complete reinvention. The team departed from what Qian described as the “sandwich architecture” found in most robot vacuums. The result is a product that stands out in any store and immediately intrigues those who see it. “If you’re walking through a store, it will truly stand out. We wanted people to be curious about what’s behind the product,” Qian said.

Every detail, from the metallic finish to the sharp, geometric lines, was refined through extensive collaboration between design and engineering. “We really tried to make sure this product is able to fit into different types of home and furnishing styles,” Qian explained. “My philosophy is always to try to find the right balance between standing out and fitting in.”

The X11 introduces PowerBoost GaN fast-charging. Instead of waiting for a full recharge, the X11 quickly tops up its battery during short docking cycles, such as mop rinses. This means the robot can cover large homes with fewer interruptions and less downtime. The 6400 mAh battery, combined with smart power management, supports almost continuous operation in busy households. This is especially valuable for users with bigger homes and complex floor plans, allowing for longer and more flexible cleaning sessions.

The X11 is also built to conquer challenging spaces. Its TruePass Adaptive 4WD climbing system uses mechanical levers to adjust the wheels, so the robot can easily cross thresholds, floor tracks, and transitions up to 24 millimeters high. This feature is especially helpful in homes with a mix of flooring types or raised entryways, ensuring the robot can move smoothly from room to room.

The technical performance is equally impressive. The BLAST Suction system houses a 100W motor for up to 19,500Pa of suction, while the new OZMO Roller 2.0 mop uses reinforced high-density nylon and extends up to 15 millimeters to tackle stubborn grime. The X11 detects floor types automatically and adjusts cleaning power and mop pressure for each surface, delivering a deep clean on both hard floors and carpets.

Sustainability extends further than the bagless design. Ecovacs encourages users to take part in trade-in and repair programs, aiming to keep robots in use longer and reduce waste. “We have a repair program around the world. Very often, we want the customer to send the product to us so we can repair it and clean up little parts, increasing the life expectancy of the product,” Qian explained.

The Deebot X11 OmniCyclone is now available for $1,499.99 in the US and Canada. With its launch, Ecovacs sets a new standard for home cleaning by blending advanced technology, thoughtful design, and a clear commitment to both sustainability and real-world user needs. Adrián Villar Rojas’s exhibition takes over Art Sonje Center

 

The Language of the Enemy marks Adrián Villar Rojas’s first solo exhibition in Korea and the first time in the institution’s history that a single project overtakes all four floors of Seoul’s Art Sonje Center, including corridors, stairwells, restrooms, and peripheral spaces. 

 

To achieve this transformation, Villar Rojas dismantles the building’s internal systems. Temporary partitions are removed, surfaces stripped back to their structural core, and even the climate controls are abandoned to expose the architecture to external forces of heat, humidity, and air. Soil and vegetation breach the interior, fire is introduced as both material and process, and exit signs glow as ambient lighting. Visitors enter through a mound of earth, stepping into a space where the categories of inside and outside, ecological and institutional, begin to collapse.

 

At the heart of the exhibition that runs until February 1st, 2026, lies the ongoing series The End of Imagination (2022–ongoing), whose chimerical sculptures appear like artifacts excavated from a future that has already forgotten us. The works are generated through Villar Rojas’s bespoke Time Engine, a digital simulation that merges video game technologies, artificial intelligence, and speculative world-building. From this tool, evolving synthetic ecologies emerge, populated by shifting life forms, architectures, and sociopolitical landscapes. Between 2021 and 2024, the artist and his longtime team began ‘downloading’ these digital beings and painstakingly reconstituting them as physical sculptures.

Fabricated in a temporary workshop in Rosario, Argentina, the works are layered composites of organic and inorganic matter made of concrete, salt, resin, glass, soil, auto parts, tree bark, and industrial debris. Each surface retains traces of its digital origin and the collective human and machinic labor that shaped it. Argentine-Peruvian artist Villar Rojas describes this reversal of authorship. ‘I model worlds, and the worlds model ”sculptures” for me,’ he explains. 

 

The exhibition title points to deeper evolutionary entanglements. Reflecting on The Language of the Enemy, Villar Rojas situates symbolic thought not as an exclusively human invention but as a shared inheritance forged in encounters with other hominin species, Neanderthals, and Denisovans, at once hostile and intimate. Today, he suggests, we face a similar threshold with synthetic intelligences whose ‘languages we barely comprehend.’ The project stages this encounter within Seoul’s Art Sonje Center itself, recasting the institution as a laboratory and ruin.

 

The ambitious transformation of the venue was realized on-site over six weeks by a group of eleven collaborators, many of whom have worked with Villar Rojas since 2009. Operating like a hive mind or terraforming crew, they constructed the exhibition as a handmade ecosystem. The project also resonates historically, commemorating the inaugural exhibition held three decades ago in the same building that marked Art Sonje Center’s establishment as a key space for contemporary art in Seoul.

The top-tier models in the 9000 series operate at a whisper-quiet 35 decibels, a sound level that is practically ambient background noise. This SuperSilent experience is achieved through a combination of optimized software and re-engineered hydraulics, making it possible to run a cycle anytime without creating a disturbance. This focus on silence is a direct response to how modern living spaces have evolved.

The drive for efficiency is another cornerstone of the New FAVORIT’s design. Dyson Unveiled debuts new devices for home innovation

The Dyson Unveiled event in Berlin marked a significant moment for the tech and home innovation community, as Dyson introduced its largest wave of new products to date. Held at Dyson’s flagship Demo Store in Berlin and streamed worldwide on September 5th, the event was led by Sir James Dyson himself, showcasing a future-focused lineup of 11 cutting-edge devices. Unlike previous years, Dyson chose to host this exclusive launch independently from the IFA Berlin trade show, emphasizing its commitment to direct consumer engagement and product experience.

The event drew global attention with the reveal (or rather, re-reveal) of the world’s slimmest vacuum, the Dyson PencilVac, measuring just 38mm in diameter, as well as the AI-powered Spot+Scrub robot vacuum, engineered for intelligent wet and dry floor cleaning. Other highlights included next-generation air purifiers, high-performance cordless vacuums like the V16 Piston Animal, and innovative haircare tools. Each product unveiled is designed to make everyday living smarter, cleaner, and more efficient, reflecting Dyson’s mission to solve real-world problems with technology.

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is Dyson’s most advanced cordless vacuum, featuring smart suction that automatically adapts to floor types and a green dust-revealing light. Its innovative dual conical brush bar prevents tangling by directing long hair to the ends for easy disposal, while a manual compression system lets you compact dust and empty the bin with less mess. The V16 is also compatible with Dyson’s new Submarine 2.0 wet roller, transforming it into a versatile wet and dry cleaner for even more convenience.

Meanwhile, the Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene wet and dry vacuum features a unique design with its dirty water tank mounted on the vacuum head, reducing clogging and odors without using a filter. It uses a microfiber roller with nylon bristles for stain removal, offers a self-cleaning function, and comes with a hot-air drying dock for easy maintenance. It’s also ideal for stain removal as it has a microfiber roller with nylon bristles.

The new Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai robot vacuum is a major step up from last year’s 360 Vis Nav, adding mopping functionality, a self-emptying dock, and a rare bagless design for easy bin emptying. While these features are now standard among leading robot vacuums, the bagless system sets Dyson apart. This means users will be able to empty the dust bin similarly to how they do it with the Dyson stick vacuum.

Dyson has also released an upgraded version of its V8 Cyclone cordless vacuum, which has 30% more suction power than the original model launched back in 2016. It can also run for up to an hour on a full charge and now has an on/off button, so you don’t need to continuously hold down the trigger. It is also still compatible with attachments from the previous version. Later on, it will also get a self-emptying dock.

Lastly, Dyson highlighted the PencilVac cordless vacuum, which was initially unveiled last May. Considered to be one of, if not the, slimmest vacuums on the market with its 38mm diameter, it features an airflow system that compresses dust and debris and stores it in the handle. Since it’s so thin, you can use it to reach those difficult-to-clean crevices. It also has four cone-shaped brush bars to make sure those pesky tangled hairs don’t interrupt the cleaning process.

With its bold Berlin showcase, Dyson has once again redefined what’s possible in home cleaning and personal care technology. From smarter, more powerful vacuums to clever wet-and-dry cleaners and breakthrough robotics, the Unveiled 2025 lineup proves Dyson’s commitment to making everyday living easier, healthier, and more efficient.

Trumpet Coffee Machine concept blends music and morning rituals

When it comes to coffee machines, I go more for the functional rather than the aesthetic. As long as it is able to give me good coffee, then I’d gladly have it. Of course sometimes, design plays a part in it as of course you’d want something that looks good to adorn your kitchen or table top. More often than not, my coffee device looks like an actual device that brings me coffee. But what if it is designed like something else that you normally don’t associate with coffee?

The Trumpet Coffee Machine is a conceptual project that brings a fresh take on the relationship between music and daily life, offering a sculptural appliance that looks just as comfortable on a stage as it does on a kitchen countertop. Created as part of a morphology course in Industrial Design by Shachar Kassorla, the Trumpet Coffee Machine merges the iconic form of a brass instrument with the familiar ritual of making coffee.

The design instantly catches the eye with its gleaming, brass-like surface and elegant, curving silhouette. Instead of traditional coffee maker lines and buttons, the Trumpet Coffee Machine borrows elements straight from the instrument’s anatomy. The machine rests on a flared base reminiscent of a trumpet’s bell, making it stable and visually grounded. The signature valves of the trumpet are cleverly reimagined as the coffee machine’s control buttons, inviting users to press and play as they brew their morning cup. Even the handle is inspired by the trumpet’s finger ring, adding a touch of musical authenticity and ergonomic comfort.

The focus of this project is not mechanical functionality or mass production, but rather the exploration of form, proportion, and texture. Every curve and finish has been chosen to evoke the artistry of both music and design. The prototype was 3D printed to simulate a brass finish, giving the surface a tactile quality that invites touch and admiration. The interplay of light on the golden curves enhances the machine’s sculptural qualities, turning it into a functional work of art.

By drawing a direct line between music and the rituals that start our day, the design encourages users to look at their morning coffee routine in a new light. It’s a reminder that the objects we use can carry deeper meanings and richer stories, elevating ordinary moments into meaningful experiences. This concept also highlights the power of industrial design to bridge different worlds. For coffee lovers and design enthusiasts alike, the Trumpet Coffee Machine is more than just an appliance. It’s an invitation to appreciate the artistry in routine, to find beauty in utility, and to celebrate the unexpected connections between seemingly unrelated passions.

Putting a 240mm Lens on an iPhone Shouldn’t Be Possible, But It’s Here: Shiftcam at IFA 2025

Let’s be honest for a second; the “telephoto” lens on even the most expensive smartphone is still a shadow of the real thing. Sure, a 3x or 5x optical zoom is a nice party trick, and a massive improvement over the digital mush we used to put up with, but it hardly gets you into the action. There is a hard physical limit to how much magnification you can cram into a device that is only a few millimeters thick, which is why your concert photos still look like they were taken with a potato. Or at least, that was the conventional wisdom until a company called ShiftCam decided to sidestep the problem entirely. Instead of trying to shrink a powerful zoom lens to fit inside a phone, they’ve built a powerful zoom lens that simply attaches to the outside, and the result is one of the most interesting pieces of mobile photography hardware I’ve seen in years.

The company is calling it the LensUltra Explorer, a name that promises adventure, and it backs it up with a piece of hardware that is both ambitious and incredibly compelling. This is a 10x optical zoom lens, built with a periscope design, that attaches to your iPhone. Let that sink in for a moment. We are not talking about the grainy, artifact-filled mess that is digital zoom, or even the respectable but limited 3x or 5x telephoto lenses built into today’s flagship phones. We are talking about a serious piece of equipment designed to give your phone the kind of reach that, until now, was exclusively the domain of dedicated mirrorless or DSLR cameras with bulky, expensive lenses.

As climate change makes hot summers more intense – especially in dense cities – the need for intentional, well-designed shade in public spaces becomes more and more critical. Architects and urban designers have a rich toolkit at their disposal, drawing on both time-tested traditions and cutting-edge innovation to create shaded oases in the urban fabric. Highlighting a diverse spectrum of approaches, we dive into solutions, ranging from monumental structures to intimate, human-scale interventions.

 

From reinterpreted architectural archetypes to ephemeral urban gestures, today’s shade-making strategies fall into a number of recognizable yet evolving categories. Among the oldest and most enduring is the colonnade — a classical solution that offers both structural clarity and solar protection. These columned corridors have long defined civic space, guiding rhythmic movement while casting shadows that cool and animate the surroundings. Lighter in presence but equally time-honored, pergolas create a more permeable kind of shelter, filtering sunlight through latticed framework and often inviting climbing plants to deepen the shade. Expanding on the gesture, canopies introduce bold overhead surfaces — projecting from buildings or standing alone — to create shaded zones for gathering, pausing, or passing through. Unlike pergolas, their shade is often generated entirely by their own form and material, making them powerful sculptural statements. However, not all shade needs to be monumental. Thoughtfully designed street furniture can incorporate shading elements to provide comfort at a human scale, enhancing the daily experience of pedestrians and sometimes, the line between a functional shade structure and a piece of public art is completely blurred. Some installations use form, material, and color to create a unique aesthetic while simultaneously providing welcome shade.
