This Minimal Moroccan Villa Needs No Air Conditioning Or Heating

Thirty minutes outside Essaouira, Morocco, architect Othmane Bengebara faced an interesting challenge. Scorched by Trick Rides is a beasty 1969 Mustang with carbon widebody

The Mustang Boss 302 restomod from earlier this year piqued our interest for two reasons – first, of course, the Mustang element, and second, the borderline militaristic aggression that evokes an alternate dystopian world character. While the exposed V8, front splitter, and the yellow-tinted LED headlights on the AltraConcept’s restomod look borderline militarized, this restomod by Trick Rides sticks to a more conventional look.

The Oklahoma-based restomod pro calls this Scorched, turning the modest 1969 Mustang supplied by Roadster Shop into a modern beast with an aerospace-grade exterior. The limited-run halo car, slated for appearance at the SEMA 2025 show in Las Vegas (from November 4 to November 8), comes with a full carbon-fiber body and widebody proportions, lending the muscle a beefier stance.

To make the whole body kit fit perfectly on the classic Mustang, the team used 3D scans of the original’s chassis, and the modification was done in compliance with the wind tunnel testing data. This includes the lights and windows, which are flush-mounted. Since they’ve used the pre-peg carbon for the outer shell construction, the muscle car is now lighter by approximately 600 pounds and more rigid. Architecture students in Tehran build N+Nest adaptable shelters

 

The N+Nest project investigates how a simple geometric form, the pyramid, can be developed into a modular birdhouse system. Designed and built by architecture students from the Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch, the project combines environmental considerations with architectural experimentation to create adaptable shelters for birds.

 

The pyramid shape is selected for its structural stability and distinct visual identity. Each unit can be rotated or mounted in different orientations, enabling flexible configurations across varied settings, from tree branches to building facades. The system allows multiple units to cluster together, forming larger compositions that accommodate multiple bird species. Constructed from weather-resistant wood, the birdhouses provide natural thermal regulation. An extended roof form shields interiors from rain, while small ventilation openings promote airflow, reducing moisture buildup and overheating. These features ensure durability and comfort within different climatic conditions.

N+Nest joins sustainable materials with adaptable pyramid forms

 

The design supports versatile mounting methods, including attachment to trunks, branches, and flat vertical or horizontal surfaces. Removable panels allow straightforward cleaning and upkeep, extending the functional lifespan of the units and supporting long-term use.

 

The project, developed by architecture students from Islamic Azad University and led by Studio Mahyar Architects, was carried out as part of a comprehensive studio process, involving digital modeling, laser cutting, assembly, and site installation. The collaborative workflow emphasized both technical learning and practical application, resulting in a scalable prototype for modular avian habitats. N+Nest demonstrates how architectural design strategies can be applied to small-scale ecological interventions. By combining modular geometry, sustainable material use, and adaptability, the project proposes a birdhouse system that can be integrated into both natural and urban contexts.

Hidden within the dense greenery of Brazil’s Atlantic forest, the Iporanga House stands as architect Arthur Casas’s own retreat. Conceived as a place to ‘recharge his energies,’ the home sits lightly in a protected natural reserve along the São Paulo coast. Its design is guided by a desire for harmony with the surrounding vegetation, a goal demonstrated by wood cladding that blends with the forest’s shifting tones and textures.

 

The Atlantic forest represents Brazil — more than the sea, the beaches and bikinis, more than soccer, more than a Carnaval picture,’ Casas reflects.This house is inserted in the forest and the wood covering tries to mimic it in the landscape — as if it was possible. The transparency, more than any aesthetic value, aims to justify the human presence in this place.’

The plan takes the form of two symmetrical cubes framing a lofty central volume. Inside, lofty ceilings rise 11 meters (36 feet), and continuous glass panels draw in light and views, creating a breezy and fluid connection to the trees beyond. ‘The shape is simple, symmetrical, easy,’ Casas notes. He contrasts the home’s subdued form with with the ‘entropic, messy profile’ of the forest that surrounds it.

 

Cumaru wood wraps nearly every surface, from walls to floor, lending a warm continuity to the interiors. The open plan allows the living room to flow into the kitchen and office, all extending outward to a broad terrace. An elevated deck nearby serves as a belvedere, offering an unobstructed perspective on untouched fragments of the forest.

Studio Arthur Casas’ integration of indoor and outdoor space defines the experience of the Iporanga House. Glass facades slide away to merge rooms with the terrace, while rich timber finishes echo the hues of the surrounding canopy. The design invites daily encounters with the landscape. Morning light filters through the trees, the sound of wildlife carries across the open interior — all affirming Casas’s belief that architecture can quietly justify human presence in even the most pristine settings.
