On view from September 18th, 2025, the exhibition and installation sit on the eighth floor of the Torre building within Fondazione Prada’s lot as part of Atlas, the foundation’s exhibition project presenting solo or comparative works by artists across the eight floors of the building. For the first time, visitors experience these two installations at once in the same space because the two mini museums – one by Claes Oldenburg and the other by Alex Da Corte – stand next to each other. When viewed from above, the structure housing the Swedish-born American sculptor’s collection is shaped like a cartoon mouse head and an early movie camera, drawn from his drawing named Geometric House.

 

In Alex Da Corte’s case, there’s a macabre twist: his structure looks like a cut-off left ear of the mouse, a reference to the episode of Vincent van Gogh’s life. Inside both of the mini museums, a collection of objects appeals to the visitors, reflecting on mass production and consumer culture as well as the ever-changing trends in pop culture. In an interview with designboom during the preview of Mouse Museum (Van Gogh Ear) (2022) inside Milan’s Fondazione Prada, Alex Da Corte tells us that he arranged the collection as a sort of self-portrait. When asked if they reflect his life, a peek into his daily practice, he shares with us: ‘I’m not interested in revealing a specific event or part of myself. I think viewers see what they see and find their own lives in the objects, whether or not they know the work’s source. We project meaning onto objects because they ground us and make a safe space.’

‘Color for me is essential. Color relates to a psychological state. Colors chosen for products are meant to attract or repel. Depending on taste, you might dislike something just because of its color,’ he says. ‘When arranging things here, it’s often about color; painting in space with objects. Claes also had a perfect sense for color. His objects are rich, maybe a different tonality, but similarly colorful.’ Away from the shade, the technique in presenting the Mouse Museum collection inside Fondazione Prada links the artistic practice between the two artists. The order is not alphabetical, by material, or based on production year, yet in both museums, the items relate through a loosely associative sequence, relying mostly on visual similarities and suggestive connections.

Playful personal objects show up in Alex Da Corte’s Mouse Museum (Van Gogh Ear) inside Milan’s Fondazione Prada. Among them is a Harry Potter magic wand, a Bart Simpson thermos, kitchen utensils, a plastic beer pong cup, and a foam cast of Marcel Duchamp’s face. There’s also the ceramic-glazed Garfield statue, a yellow rooster with a tail made of quill feathers, wearable feet gloves that resemble real skin, beer bottles, brooms, a miniature disco ball, a blasted pumpkin, and perhaps the showstopper, a zombie-looking head atop a lamp base. These peculiar objects mirror the ones inside Claes Oldenburg’s Mouse Museum: a rotting slice of pie, a balloon shaped like a human leg, an enlarged cluster of bananas, a giant ceramic ear, and even a miniaturized ladder.

 

‘Looking at Claes’s works today, I don’t know the objects, but I’m amused or reminded of something. I imagine where they came from and their function,’ Alex Da Corte shares with designboom. ‘My interest comes from thrift stores, where you find a fragment of an object and wonder about its function. Without its original purpose, it can have a new life. Seeing a second or third life for objects is exciting.’ For the artist, it feels like a dream come true seeing the objects collected by Claes Oldenburg for his Mouse Museum for the first time in Fondazione Prada. ‘I only knew them through photographs in the book, and those were in black and white. To experience the colors and textures and to see so many similarities is exciting. My interest is in hands, food, plastic, and even clay. There’s humor in the work, and I see a parallel there,’ he adds.

 

 

The first time Alex Da Corte came across Claes Oldenburg’s works was around 25 years ago. ‘It was in my undergraduate library. I stumbled upon the book he made with his partner to mark the presentation of the Mouse Museum. I knew Claes’s work and his relationships to soft things, sculpture, and performance, but I didn’t know much about contemporary art. When I saw the Mouse Museum, I was taken by all it afforded an audience and how generous it was. Only today am I seeing the real one. For 25 years, I’ve been wondering about this work,’ he says.The artist created his Mouse Museum (Van Gogh Ear) in 2022 for his survey exhibition ‘Mr. Remember,’ which is on view at the Louisiana Museum in Humlebæk, Denmark. 

 

He recalls that when he was thinking about what a retrospective or a survey of his own work would look like and what it means to remember himself and the objects he had gathered over his life. ‘The person who did that so correctly was Claes. I thought, I can’t remake the whole museum; it’s too sacred. So I thought, I’ll cut off an ear: a little piece of me, a little piece of him,’ he shares. Mouse Museum (Van Gogh Ear) (2022) is inside the Torre within the lot of Milan’s Fondazione Prada, on the eighth floor. The public viewing begins from September 18th, 2025, where viewers can also visit Sueño Perro: Instalación Celuloide by De Alejandro G. Iñárritu, a cinematic and photographic exhibition that unveils and showcases previously hidden film materials and imagery by the Mexican filmmaker, which were preserved for 25 years in the film archives of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

LEGO Has Serious Competition – China-based CaDA’s Audi R8 Brickset looks WILD

LEGO’s stranglehold on the brick-building world just got a serious challenge, and it’s coming from a direction most people weren’t expecting. Atelier VRAC’s Temporary Installation at a Mountain River is presented during Făgăraș Fest on the Moașa Sebeșului River, a tributary of the Sebeș River in Romania’s Făgăraș Mountains. The installation consists of a precise circular structure set directly within the riverbed, framing the natural setting through architectural intervention while allowing the water to flow freely beneath. The circle establishes a geometric boundary, forming an outdoor ‘room’ that temporarily redefines the linear landscape of the river. This boundary is composed of slender vertical elements topped with solar light globes, accompanied by a suspended textile canopy that creates a light, permeable enclosure. The canopy lightly brushes against the vegetation on both banks, subtly incorporating the surrounding environment into the installation.

 

Access to the interior varies according to scale and movement: children pass beneath the fabric with ease, while adults must bend slightly to enter. Within, an angled pontoon is positioned off-center and is only reachable by stepping into the river. This element creates a pause in the flowing environment, offering a distinct moment of stillness and reflection within the temporary structure. UK startup build’s first quantum computer using same silicon chip fabrication tech as your laptop or phone

A London-based startup, Quantum Motion, has created what is being hailed as the world’s first full-stack quantum computer, utilizing the silicon chip fabrication technology that is customary in computers and smartphones. The computer installed at the National Quantum Computing Center (NQCC) in the UK provides scalable quantum computing technology and is hailed as ‘quantum computing’s silicon moment.’

A quantum computer based on the existing silicon manufacturing processes is a quantum leap in computing that has been achieved by the standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) chip fabrication process. According to the startup, which has made it possible, the hardware comprises 300mm silicon CMOS wafer technology, which is mass-manufacturable, and should make this computing tech common in households someday.

Designer: Quantum Motion

The “announcement” of this system, which can be fabricated in commercial foundries, James Palles‑Dimmock, Quantum Motion’s CEO said, “demonstrates” that “you can build a robust, functional quantum computer using the world’s most scalable technology, which can be mass-produced.”

Quantum Motion launched this full-stack quantum computer made with silicon on September 15. It is a three-rack system (comprising standard 19-inch racks) that has been developed in association with the UK government, which is pushing hard to commercialize scalable quantum hardware. Fitted in the data center-friendly form factor is the dilution refrigerator and integrated control electronics. QM has also developed cryoelectronics to connect the qubits to the control circuits, which operate at very low temperatures, making the system capable of greatly upscaling quantum processes, the company notes.

The system runs on a silicon-based Quantum Processing Unit (QPU). It comprises a user interface and control stack that supports existing software frameworks like Qiskit and Cirq. This convenience facilitates developers to build and run quantum workloads without having to go beyond their comfort zone. That said, at the time of writing, there is no data regarding the performance, the early benchmarks, or how it manages error mitigation. But we are comfortable believing that the prospects are high and the information on how this system solves the common problems faced by other quantum platforms.

Of course, this is the closest quantum computer to the standard devices that we are using, despite the scale. It works separately from the main system, making it easier to integrate into the standard data centre. And given its modular setup, Quantum Motion states, the system can be upgraded to a larger QPU without having to alter its physical footprint.

Quantum computing is still in its infancy, but it has the potential to surpass even the fastest supercomputers, enabling calculations and simulations that may seem far-fetched with today’s technology. A breakthrough like this from Quantum Motion marks a significant step forward in bringing quantum computing to the mainstream. And also closer to the man’s dream of a quantum computer on a chip!

Permanent Souls: Between the visible and the invisible

 

Iranzo’s project Permanent Souls examines how discarded materials can be transformed into functional sculptures that exist between visibility and absence. The work uses polypropylene nets, originally sourced from sports and construction contexts, and combines them with epoxy resin to create lightweight, permeable structures.

 

The design process emphasizes handcraft and material specificity. Each piece is produced through an artisanal method that preserves the distinct qualities of the nets while stabilizing them in new forms. The resulting works retain traces of their previous use but are reconfigured into objects, such as chairs and tables, that are both utilitarian and open to interpretation.

Formally, the sculptures suggest functionality without prescribing it. Their lightness, transparency, and suspended geometries allow for multiple readings, whether as objects to be engaged with physically or as structures that simply frame space and perception.

ADP Bench by Spacon Studio & +Halle Invites Adults to Play in Public Spaces

Public benches are usually pretty boring affairs. You sit, you wait, maybe you people-watch if you’re lucky. But Copenhagen’s Spacon Studio had a different idea when they teamed up with +Halle for their latest creation. The ADP Bench, which stands for “Adults Don’t Play,” does exactly the opposite of what its cheeky name suggests, turning every seating moment into a mini adventure.

The bench emerged from +Halle’s sixth Annual Briefing, where designers tackled the theme of “Playing.” Instead of creating something obviously childish with bright colors and cartoon shapes, Spacon Studio dug into behavioral research from the University of Southern Denmark. They discovered something fascinating: adults never really stop wanting to fidget, adjust, and experiment with their environment.

Here’s where things get interesting. Each circular seat spins like a drummer’s stool, and you literally can’t help yourself when you encounter one. That irresistible urge to give it a twist isn’t a design flaw; it’s the entire point. Suddenly, you’re adjusting the height, finding your perfect perch, maybe even converting it into a makeshift table for your coffee.

The genius lies in its hybrid nature. Each element transforms from low seating to standard bench height, high perch, or table surface with endless combinations in between. Users become co-creators, deciding in real time how each piece should function. It’s furniture that adapts to you rather than forcing you to conform to its predetermined purpose.

Built from MDF and steel with blue zinc galvanized details, the ADP Bench balances serious durability with approachable aesthetics. The three available colors, Plum, Ivory, and Pale Lime, add warmth without screaming for attention. Adjustable plastic gliders ensure stability on uneven surfaces because even the most playful furniture needs to be practical in public spaces.

What’s really clever about the ADP Bench is how it challenges our assumptions about adult behavior in public spaces. We’ve been conditioned to think that playfulness belongs in designated areas, that serious adults shouldn’t fidget or experiment with their surroundings. Spacon Studio’s design suggests otherwise, tapping into those subtle human triggers we all share.

Good design doesn’t need to shout to make an impact, and the ADP Bench understands this perfectly. It offers the simplest invitation: a seat that spins, waiting for someone curious enough to give it a try. In a world of static public furniture, this little act of spinning becomes a moment of agency, discovery, and unexpected delight.

Stonemore’s Modern, Anti-Package-Theft Mailboxes

A company with no history called Stonemore is selling these anti-package-theft mailboxes.

Boxy and made of powder-coated steel, they’re meant to be anchored through the base to a concrete pad. Up top is a letter slot. Below that is a package door, behind which is a hinged floor that drops your package into the compartment below:

The package door also has two metal spring clips, where you can place outgoing letters.

Packages too big to fit through the hinged opening can instead be inserted directly into the compartment below, (if you’re willing to give your carrier a key or the code). To retrieve your mail or packages, there’s a full-length locked door on the back of the unit.

Shown above is the Hudson model, which runs $430. Below is their less-expensive $300 Cali model, which I think looks better.

Lastly, for those who regularly receive large packages, they offer an Aspen model for $400 that only has a single lid, up top.

The only thing I’m not crazy about is the flat top. Looks cool, sure, but water or snow will just sit up top.
