Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Casa Yuri feels like it was carved from the coastline itself. This expansive oceanfront home, completed in 2023, takes everything beautiful about traditional Mexican architecture and reimagines it for contemporary living. The result is a residence that manages to be both jaw-dropping and surprisingly intimate.

The journey to Casa Yuri begins with a lushly landscaped ramp that winds up from the motor lobby, building anticipation with each step. Spanning nearly 3,000 square meters across a breathtaking oceanfront site, the home unfolds like a series of discoveries. Architects Daniel Zozaya Valdés and Enrique Zozaya had the rare gift of complete creative freedom from their client, and they used it to create something truly special—a house that pushes boundaries while staying rooted in place.

At 17 meters across, this traditional thatched-roof structure is the largest the firm has ever built for a private home. Under its soaring canopy, you’re simultaneously sheltered and completely connected to the sea.

Ather’s Shape-Shifting Electric Scooter Actually Transforms While You Ride

India’s electric vehicle market is one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving spaces on the planet. In the two-wheeler segment, which forms the backbone of personal transport for millions, Ather Energy has carved out a reputation as the country’s premier homegrown EV brand. Often compared to what Tesla did for cars, Ather brought a blend of sophisticated design, smart technology, and thrilling performance to the electric scooter market with its popular 450 series. Speaking of performance, the Redux packs an 18kW water-cooled motor putting out 100Nm of torque, which Ather says is equivalent to a 600cc petrol motorcycle. Those are genuinely impressive numbers that would put most Indian motorcycles to shame, let alone scooters.

Range sits at 130+ kilometers from the fixed lithium-ion battery, and while Ather hasn’t revealed exact charging specs, their track record with fast-charging tech suggests this won’t be a problem. They’ve built India’s largest EV two-wheeler fast-charging network with over 4,700 charging points, so infrastructure support is already there.

The real magic happens with Redux’s adaptive technology though. The Adaptive Stance system can dynamically adjust the suspension and ergonomics based on your riding style and selected mode. Want to cruise through city traffic? The bike sits upright and relaxed. Feel like carving some corners? It automatically shifts into a more aggressive, forward-leaning position. This isn’t just about comfort either, the Adaptive Ride Dynamics system adjusts suspension settings, handlebar position, and power delivery in real-time.

The user interface gets equally clever treatment with MorphUI, a context-aware system running on a vertical touchscreen instead of Ather’s usual horizontal displays. The interface literally morphs based on how you’re riding, showing a clean commuter layout during relaxed cruising and switching to a sport-oriented performance display when you get aggressive. Add in haptic feedback for the throttle, giving you actual tactile response, and you start to see how Redux represents a completely different approach to rider interaction.

India’s massive two-wheeler market (over 20 million units annually) gives companies like Ather real-world testing grounds that simply don’t exist elsewhere.

The Redux isn’t confirmed for production yet, but it represents Ather’s vision for the next generation of electric mobility. The Sea Lion Prototype is dubbed the world’s fastest amphibious car at the time of its creation in 2012, which uses retractable side pods to float on water. A part of the Larry Klairmont Collection in the Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in Chicago, the vehicle uses a Mazda 13B rotary engine with a displacement of 1.3 liters. The engine is equipped with a Camden supercharger and a Holley carburetor, and it is this power unit that drives the wheels for land operation and links it to a marine jet system when the vehicle is in the water. The transmission of power to the jet unit allows the same engine to serve both modes without changing the main drive source.

 

From the get-go, it is visible that the hull and frame are built from aluminum alloy, with all of their sections CNC-milled and TIG-welded during assembly. The amphibious car Sea Lion Prototype comes with a monocoque section fused to the body at the center of the car to create a single load-bearing structure, and the body includes front and rear fenders that attach directly to the main shell. The use of aluminum reduces overall weight and resists corrosion during water exposure. For operation on land, the car functions as a low two-seat road vehicle. When the driver prepares for water entry, hydraulic actuators pull the front wheels up into the wheel wells. This clears the lower edge of the vehicle and prevents drag in the water, while the side pods, mounted along the flanks on the side, extend outward by mechanical arms, doubling as cargo holders and flotation devices for the vehicle.

The amphibious car Sea Lion Prototype was designed and built by Marc Witt and SeaRoader Aquatic not as a mass-production model but as an experimental build. Part of the aim was to test how a rotary engine, a jet pump, and a rigid aluminum chassis could work together in a dual-purpose machine, so the team selected the 13B rotary because of its small size and high power output. The jet pump received new housing and alignment to fit the car’s hull. The movement in water then comes from a Berkeley 12 JC jet drive pump, which draws water through an intake at the rear and expels it at high speed through a nozzle to produce thrust. 

 

Controls inside the cockpit include pedals, a gear selector, and an instrument cluster for land travel. A second set of levers operates the jet pump intake and the position of the steering nozzle, while the fighter-style stick standing between the seats allows the pilot to navigate moving over water. Entry is by a single opening in the top shell, and the seating and controls stay fixed. In a listing by Mecum Auctions, the amphibious car Sea Lion Prototype forms part of the Larry’s Legacy Collection at the Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in downtown Chicago.

This sparkle creates a shifting pattern of reflections, giving the phone a dynamic, almost jewelry-like quality.

The camera system is arranged vertically in the top right corner of the cover display. On the opposite edge of the frame, the volume rocker and power button, which doubles as a fingerprint scanner,  are positioned in a standard configuration. A small LED flash is located in the upper right corner of the back panel. Because of this placement, it is not usable when the phone is propped open in an L-shape, which is something to keep in mind for low-light selfies.

The side frame is finished in a matte icy blue. A geometric pattern wraps around the hinge, accompanied by the signature of “Prof. Jimmy Choo Yeang Keat OBE.” The branding is prominent but still feels integrated into the overall look. The Honor logo, by contrast, is barely noticeable at first glance and blends seamlessly into the finish. It is a quiet detail that lets the design take center stage.

Meta releases Ray-Ban Display glasses with accompanying smart Neural Band

The rumour mill has been going around about Meta’s next big take on wearable augmented reality glasses, with an authentic leak spilling the beans a couple of days ago. The wait is finally over as the Annual Meta Connect event in Menlo Park saw Mark Zuckerberg talk long and hard about the new smart glasses. Called the Meta Ray-Ban Display spectacles, the wearable is a perfect balance of flair and practical use. Meta also announced the Neural Band, which will be included with the $799 wearable.

Alongside this, the event saw the reveal of sports-focused Oakley Vanguard glasses and the new Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 with improved hardware. The latter comes with a better camera module, bumped up battery life of 8 hours, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 3K video shooting capability. The updated version of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is priced at $379-$459.

Meta Ray-Ban Display

The newly announced smart glasses have a full-color monocular display in the right eye to bring a very intriguing interface as a heads-up display. This takes it beyond the audio and chat interface of the previous generations, employing the onboard AI engine to the maximum. This display, having a 120-degree field of view, comes with a resolution of 600×600 at 42 pixels per degree. Meta has bumped up the refresh rate for media content to 90Hz and content scrolling to 30Hz. The brightness on the Meta Ray-Ban Display remains the same as the earlier version, i.e., ranging from 30 to 5,000 nits. The glasses have an embedded 12MP camera that has 3x zoom levels, which comes in handy for previewing shots or instantly taking close-up videos.

This nano display comes with UV detection to automatically turn on, and has just 2 percent light leakage. That means others in your vicinity won’t be able to eavesdrop on what’s going on your glass interface. You can have a quick glance at your text messages, navigation directions, or photos while walking in the streets as the display creates a non-intrusive dashboard in your peripheral vision. Most importantly, the smart glasses weighing 69 grams are just like any regular spectacles, but they have 30 hours of standby battery life and around 6 hours on mixed use on a busy day. These are the most practical smart glasses that you can invest in without second thoughts, and they’ll be available in two colors – Black and Sand – starting September 30 in the US. Availability in other markets, including the UK, Canada, France, and Italy, is slated for early 2026.

Meta has developed the Neural Band as an accessory of the Meta Ray-Ban Display to unify the input and make things ultra smooth in operation. The IPX7 water-resistant wristband detects gestures, swipes, taps, pinches, or rotations to trigger a variety of inputs on the glasses or to simply navigate the display interface. The smart wearable makes use of electrical impulses in the forearms to detect the desired input by the wearer. Not only this, but later in the year, the band will get the ability to detect handwritten notes or messages. Neural band has a battery life of 18 hours and comes in complementing Shiny Black or Shiny Sand colorways.

Mark also announced the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses, featuring a wrap-around design, targeted at people with an active lifestyle. The IP67-rated glasses boast a centrally mounted 12MP ultrawide camera with a 122-degree FOV, 3K video recording capability, a five-mic array for clearer conversations, nine hours of battery life, and 6dB speakers in each arm to cancel out distracting ambient noises. These are the logical predecessors of the Oakley Meta HSTN smart frames, bringing ample improvements to justify the $499 price tag. They can be pre-ordered immediately, with shipping scheduled for October 21.

Minimalist welded clock redefines timepiece design

The Edition 003 clock from Jamie Wolfond Studios is a striking example of how a single piece of metal can become a work of art and a functional timekeeper. Designed in collaboration with Daniel Schofield, the concept began after a conversation about the “24 Hours” exhibition in the fall of 2024 . Schofield proposed a clock welded in twelve places, each weld simultaneously holding the structure together and marking an hour on the dial. The challenge was to create the entire form from one continuous sheet of stainless steel, tensioned only by those twelve tiny welds .

In the studio, Wolfond and his team used a manual ten‑ton press and a modest welding setup to shape the piece. After several iterations, the welds were reduced to barely visible tacks, turning the clock into a precisely engineered sculpture. Each of the twelve welds is slightly different, casting subtle tones on the clock’s kaleidoscopic faces and giving the piece a dynamic, ever‑changing visual rhythm .

The clock is made from SAE 304 stainless steel, with accents of plastic and aluminium for the hands and mounting hardware. Until October 5th, 2025, the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona becomes the stage for Lost Limits, an artistic intervention by artists Anne Glassner and Marit Wolters that brings together sculpture, performance, and architecture to question where private life ends and public presence begins.

 

Wolters’ concrete sculptures are cast using water drawn from the Pavilion’s pond, and, installed within the same pool, they mirror the surrounding travertine surfaces. Their placement within this setting highlights how materiality transforms when situated in a space tied to modern architecture’s ideals of precision, purity, and timelessness.

Anne Glassner and Marit Wolters perform everyday gestures

 

Austrian visual artist and performer Anne Glassner’s performance unfolds in parallel. On September 18th, 2025, she and German sculptor Marit Wolters wear camouflage clothing that blends them into the Pavilion’s geometry while enacting everyday gestures, like sitting, drinking, eating, lying down, and looking. These mundane acts, displaced from their domestic sphere into a public architectural icon, make the familiar become estranged. Visitors participate as well, with their movements interrupting or redirecting the performers.

 

The artists propose that architecture is a stage for lived experience and suggest that limits between inside and outside, object and subject, and visible and hidden are flexible rather than fixed.

 

Lost Limits also extends Glassner and Wolters’ ongoing collaboration, which began with interventions at Czechia’s Villa Tugendhat in 2021 and 2022, another of Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich’s seminal works.

Paul Cocksedge’s Beautiful “Critical Mass” Marble Table

This incredible marble table is by Paul Cocksedge, the British industrial-designer-turned-artist.

There are no fasteners involved; the pieces have been carved in such a way that their weight holds them fast to the others.

Cocksedge created at least two of the tables for his solo exhibition, Critical Mass. It’s on now at the Objects with Narratives gallery in Brussels, through November.

I will say, I love Cocksedge’s work—but can’t stand the way his videos are edited. They somehow make my ADHD worse. I’d like to be able to focus on the objects he creates, without the constant jump cuts and text overlays. The work deserves better.

Form Follows Function: Ticket Rails

I first learned about ticket rails as a teenager working in restaurants. I consider them the perfect object: Functional, minimal, and elegant in their simplicity.

If you don’t know what they are, they’re used to hold paper tickets in restaurants. All you do is slide the ticket up into the slot, and it’s held fast. You can move the ticket side-to-side or pull it back out with no damage to the paper.

The body is just an aluminum extrusion, with the front face angled at the bottom. That’s because inside, there are marbles or ball bearings.

The angle on the face causes the marbles to press towards the back of the rail, which holds the paper in place. The contact points of the marbles on the paper provide just enough pressure. Plastic caps at the end hold the marbles in place.

As an adult I bought two from a restaurant supply store. I use them in my shop, to hold plans and shop drawings. They’re way faster than using tape or push pins and they don’t mar the drawing.
