For my review, I received the Titanium Charcoal version. In person, this finish reveals far more nuance than its name implies. While skin tones are generally rendered beautifully, eyes can occasionally appear overly crisp, which may lead to an unnatural look in portraits.

Completing the trio on the rear is the 15mm-equivalent 50MP ultra-wide camera, built around a 1/2.75-inch Samsung JN5 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. Interestingly, the same sensor powers the 21mm-equivalent 50MP front-facing camera. Both the ultra-wide and front cameras perform admirably, producing clear, lively images that are well-suited for group shots, landscapes, and selfies alike.

Oppo has followed in the footsteps of Vivo and brought a fresh option to its lineup with the introduction of a telephoto extender for the Find X9 Pro. The Hasselblad teleconverter kit includes a lens mounting ring, a 3.28x lens, and a sturdy lens bracket that allows you to mount the phone to a tripod using a thread. When you switch to the dedicated Hasselblad telephoto converter mode on the camera carousel, you are locked into this specific mode. Other creative modes, such as Portrait or Xpan are not accessible while the extender is in use, which means you’re limited to standard telephoto shooting. The biggest drawback is that the lens mounting ring physically blocks both the main and ultra-wide cameras. If you encounter a scene that calls for a different lens, you’ll need to remove both the lens and the mounting ring before you can switch, interrupting your shooting flow and reducing spontaneity.

When it comes to video, the Find X9 Pro has fewer limitations and annoyances compared to other smartphones. It can shoot videos up to 4K at 120 FPS on both the main and telephoto cameras, with 4K at 60 FPS available on the ultra-wide and front-facing cameras. Video quality from the main and telephoto lenses is excellent, showing strong dynamic range, crisp detail, and very low noise, even in difficult low-light conditions. Although the phone does not offer 8K video recording, it makes up for this with creative flexibility. You can seamlessly switch between all four cameras, rear and front, even while shooting in LOG format. This feature gives content creators added control for color grading and allows for smooth scene transitions in post-production.

It’s common across the smartphone industry for global versions to receive smaller batteries compared to their counterparts in the Chinese market. With the Find X9 Pro, Oppo breaks from this trend and gives global users the same substantial battery as the Chinese model. At first glance, Tuno looks nothing like traditional DJ equipment. It’s a ring-shaped controller, roughly the size of a CD, designed to be held with both hands like a steering wheel. The donut form isn’t just aesthetic; it’s functional, expanding the control surface while keeping every button, dial, and slider within natural thumb and finger reach. Two symmetrical sides mirror the traditional two-deck DJ setup, letting you blend tracks by simply moving your hands across the circular interface. German engineer 3D prints real-life X-Wing drone that hits top speeds of 200 km/h

Spaceships from the Star Wars universe have inspired many of us, and DIYer Luis is no exception. His fascination, however, has gone far beyond mere admiration. He has actually built a model that can fly just like the ones in the movies. Introducing the incredible Star Wars X-Wing drone, capable of flying at speeds of over 200 km/h.

A creation of YouTuber and DIYer Luis (a.k.a. German Engineer), the drone was perfected after about six different iterations. The flying prototype has been achieved, the builder informs, after countless crashes. However, now that it is functional, the engineer has made the 3D printing files of the build available for other users to replicate.

The idea of the X-Wing drone came to Luis after he saw a similar idea developed by Red Bull. It was a First-Person View drone (shaped like a slender rocket) designed to fly at speeds of over 310 km/h. This ingenious design got him into mulling the possibility of replicating a T-65 X-Wing Starfighter from Star Wars capable of real-world flying, which many DIYers have tried before but failed, because the basic wing structure of such a drone is unstable in high-speed flying.

It may have been a hindrance, but not an idea killer for Luis, who has combined 3D printing, carbon fiber, and ingenious engineering to design an X-Wing that can actually fly. He took the flyer for a trip to Lake Como, Italy, for the flight test of the final prototype, which turned out fast–flying at over 200 km/h, though not as fast as Red Bull, its inspiration. The 3D printed drone was, according to the creator, able to reach a top speed of 216 km/h (134 mph) in a total airborne time of about 10 minutes.

According to the details in the video detailing the build process, the initial iterations of the drone comprised a flimsy carbon fiber frame that had vibrations, and the drone crashed mid-flight after the controls shut down. Through repeated crashes and amends, Luis thought of 3D printing structural components of the drone with carbon fiber reinforced filament, which was a faster process of creation, and eventually a drone with 3D printed body panels was conceived, which finally had the structural integrity required for high-speed flying.

The flying is as much made possible with the placement of the engines as with the structural integrity. Instead of putting them close to the flyer’s body (as in the Star Wars movies themselves), Luis has used 4 FPV motors on the wingtips. This may not be movie-level accuracy, but the tweak makes flying possible, resulting in a drone capable of hitting top speeds of 216 km/h. Besides this, most of the actions are pretty close to those in the movies.

A Revolutionary and Gigantic Kitchen Sink Design

The paradigm with kitchens is that you wash ingredients in the sink, do prep on the counter, then do cleanup in the sink. Japanese company Toyo Kitchen Style proposes an entirely different workflow with their Zero Flow sink. “We believe a truly user-friendly kitchen is one with short cooking paths,” the company says, which explains their design.

The sink is enormous, at 76cm (30″) square. In addition to its sheer size, the sink’s key innovation is its staggered ledges, which support a large cutting board/worksurface and a perforated tray for draining.

Iconic Japanese architect Tadao Ando unveils plans for the upcoming Dubai Museum of Art, a new cultural institution floating at the edge of Dubai Creek. The rounded, monolithic structure will hover above the saltwater inlet on a circular platform, its fluid concrete surface folding and twisting toward a glazed opening that catches the desert light.

 

Viewed from across the bay, the museum reads as both grounded and in motion. Its curved body evoking the hydrodynamic precision of a vessel. The facade, clad in smooth white panels, is punctured by triangular apertures that taper upward with measured rhythm, filtering daylight into the interiors. At sunset, the building’s surface absorbs the shifting amber tones of the sky, softening its engineered geometry into something quietly atmospheric.

 

Within the surrounding landscape, a procession of palms lines the approach, their shadows repeating the rhythm of the facade. The structure’s base meets the water through a subtle overhang, giving the impression that the museum floats.

Inside, Tadao Ando’s design language of restraint and precision becomes clear through the treatment of concrete and light. The galleries occupy the first two levels, organized around a central oculus that channels daylight downward in a pearlescent glow. The play between curved concrete walls and the circular skylight produces a calm, shifting brightness that defines the visitor’s path without the need for overt boundaries.

 

The upper level houses a lounge and restaurant framed by full-height glazing. From here, views extend across the creek toward the city’s skyline. With this framing, the architect situates the art and the architecture which surrounds it within the broader context of an evolving Dubai. The museum also includes a library and study areas dedicated to supporting the next generation of artists and designers.

Commissioned by the Al-Futtaim Group, the museum is developed as a public amenity and a platform for creative exchange. Its design speaks to Ando’s enduring interest in geometry, and light. Here, these elements converge within a distinctly urban and maritime setting. The building’s outer shell is smooth and continuous, and conceals an interior landscape of concrete volumes and curving voids that guide movement and frame sightlines.

 

When complete, the Dubai Museum of Art will become a new focal point in Dubai. It will host exhibitions, discussions, and educational programs. Backdropped by Dubai’s skyline, Tadao Ando’s upcoming work will distill his enduring design philosophy into a single gesture.

Nike’s Bizarre, Experimental Mind-Body-Connection Footwear

Within the Nike Sport Research Lab is a new division: The Mind Science Department, whose purpose is “deepening Nike’s understanding of the mind-body connection.” This division employs actual neuroscientists who use both brain and body imaging to “study the nervous system, brain activity and cognition of athletes in motion — leading to unique insights informing a completely new category of products and services to help athletes better prepare, train, compete and recover.”

Their studies have yielded the Nike Mind, a line of footwear with foam spheres on the bottom.

As you walk you can feel these spheres on the undersides of your feet, through the sole.

While that seems it might be annoying, those sensations are actually the point:

“Scientifically shown to activate key sensory areas of the brain via underfoot stimulation, the Nike Mind 001 mule and Mind 002 sneaker deepen an athlete’s awareness, helping ground them in their bodies and bring them back to the present moment.”

“The Mind 001 and Mind 002 feature 22 independent foam nodes per shoe that are bonded to a flexible, water-resistant material that allows them to act as pistons and gimbals as athletes move — imparting the feeling, and even the texture, of the ground directly beneath. This interaction heightens sensory awareness, which can help clear away distractions and enhance concentration.”

The Mind 001 is the slip-on you see in the photos; the Mind 002 is the actual sneaker.

Breakthrough, or hooey? We’ll have to wait for user reviews, which should come next year. Both Mind models will be released in January.

Hardware is the New Salt: How AI Helps Democratize Innovation in Hardware Design and Manufacturing

Decades of physical product development now intersect with cloud connectivity, AI, and advanced computing, marking a shift in the way we design hardware. In the past, devices like Sony Handycams or Casio organizers stood on their own, disconnected and limited in their scope. Today, a fusion of intelligence and context powered by IoT, powerful chipsets and machine learning models are accelerating innovation at scale.

This moment is about speed, not just of computing, but of experimentation and iteration. AI allows us to compress what once took six months into six days. At Fluke, during the discovery phase, we’re using tools like Enzzo to quickly mine customer insights, build personas, model value propositions, and simulate bill-of-materials, at pace. That acceleration allows us to play faster, test ideas more rapidly, and refine more precisely.

When we move into the delivery phase, AI helps bridge the historically conflicting models of hardware’s waterfall approach and software’s agile processes. From prototyping to firmware to rendering, AI-driven tools enable faster iteration across physical and digital boundaries. Then comes the sustain phase, where products are in-market and generating data. AI is changing how we ask questions about usage, performance, and customer behavior. No longer limited by dashboards or SQL skills, teams can now pose natural language queries and get answers in seconds. That’s a revolution in operational intelligence, and a lever for continuous improvement.

However, what makes this generation of technology different from past shifts is not just power or capability, it’s usability. With natural language interfaces, you no longer need to write code to be productive; you just need curiosity. That radically lowers the barrier to adoption, speeding up learning curves across entire organizations.

But speed isn’t without risk. We take that trade-off seriously at Fluke, where safety and precision are paramount. There’s a line we won’t cross with generative AI. While we’re happy to use it for product recommendations or visual renderings, we never deploy it where safety or compliance is on the line. There is an ethical responsibility tied to innovation, one that pushes barriers but never jeopardizes the intention of designing in the first place. With this at the forefront, our cycle of innovation prioritizes trust and human capacity, keeping a check on AI, its applications, and results.

This is where democratization comes in. For innovation to grow within any organization – there must be increased access to design tools, software, and training across departments. We’ve seen repeatedly that passion and curiosity can trump credentials. The ability to experiment, test, and iterate is innately human. AI enables more people to try, fail, learn, and eventually build meaningful things. That’s how innovation should work.

Hardware has always been difficult; long lead times, complex integrations, and in some cases, expensive mistakes. But AI can help flatten that curve, giving us faster feedback loops and more dynamic product-market fit testing. At the same time, it rebalances the power dynamic between software and hardware. Hardware has been commoditized by software for years. Now, as AI commodifies software, the spotlight turns back to hardware as the irreplaceable interface to human experience.

It’s this that also led me to return to hardware after years in cloud computing. Every interaction, whether with a device, a tool, or a service, ends in the physical world. You can’t feel, touch, or experience software without hardware. The magic happens at that intersection.

Still, trust doesn’t happen overnight. It’s our job to educate and show the art of the possible with AI, so we host AI demo days, lunch-and-learns, and summit events to expose our teams to different use cases. More importantly, we explore what’s possible when you can use AI responsibly in an environment where you are free to try and test, before scaling. [GM2]

Ultimately, this is about responsible acceleration. By giving people the tools and guidance, we can create environments where people are free to explore without setting them up to fail.

AI is still in its infancy, but its learning curve is exponential. Our responsibility is to guide it carefully, while it’s still learning to walk, as one day we’ll need to trust it to run.
