World’s Slimmest Tracker Card at 1.3mm Makes Tile and Chipolo Trackers Look Bulky

Honestly, I was expecting Apple to drop the AirTag 2 on September 9th. It just made sense, given that Apple was already miniaturizing their iPhone by debuting the iPhone Air. At 5.6mm, the iPhone Air is bonkers thin, and honestly, it’s even thinner than the 8mm-thick AirTag. So here I was, expecting a slimmer AirTag ‘Air’ to drop… but without much luck. And to be honest, the current landscape of card-shaped trackers feels like an exercise in compromise. The Tile Slim comes in at 2.5mm thick, the Chipolo Card is 2.3mm, and even the “slim” offerings from generic brands typically land between 2.2-2.4mm. That might not sound significant, but it’s roughly twice as thick as your average credit card, which sits at approximately 0.76mm. Pop one of these in your wallet, and suddenly your leather billfold bulges like you’ve stuffed a small pebble in there.

The ‘innovation’ hasn’t been particularly impressive either. For years, these card trackers were disposable – use until the battery dies, then toss and replace. Recently we’ve seen some incorporate wireless charging, which is a step forward, but still leaves us with chunky cards that feel out of place in a minimalist wallet. Enter the Slimca HERE 2, which frankly makes every other card tracker look like it’s been skipping cardio. At just 1.3mm thick, it’s practically indistinguishable from a credit card in your wallet. That’s less than half the thickness of a Tile Slim, and still a full millimeter thinner than the Chipolo Card. The engineering here is genuinely impressive.

What really sells me on the HERE 2 is that they’ve managed to incorporate a USB-C port into something this thin. Most electronics engineers would tell you that’s nearly impossible – standard USB-C ports are typically around 2.5mm thick themselves. Yet Slimca’s figured out how to integrate one into a 1.3mm frame without compromising on durability. It also packs a nifty charging light, which lets you know when your HERE 2 is completely juiced.

Speaking of durability, the HERE 2 can bend up to 15 degrees without breaking – a feat that sets it apart from every single other mainstream card tracker out there. A solid 15° of flexibility means it won’t snap when you sit on your wallet or squeeze it into a tight purse pocket. Most rigid trackers either break under pressure or, worse, break your wallet’s card slots. To achieve this slimness and flex, the HERE 2 ditches plastic for a mirror-finish 304 stainless steel, giving it a premium look while maintaining that impossibly thin profile.

Of course, it includes all the standard features you’d expect, like proximity alerts that notify you when you’ve left an item behind and the ability to play a sound to pinpoint its location when you’re nearby. It’s a complete package that doesn’t sacrifice function for form. This choice helped it snag the 2025 iF Design Award, which is no small feat for what’s essentially a utility device.

As its name suggests, the HERE 2 succeeds its predecessor, and does so by addressing a major limitation of the HERE 1 by supporting both iOS and Android. The first-gen HERE was Apple-only, but this new model works with Apple’s Find My network and Android’s Find Hub. Battery life stands at 5 months on a full charge, with the charging taking 3 hours to go from 0 to 100% (makes sense considering this isn’t one of your fancy 200W fast-charge smartphones). The HERE 2 can support up to 100 charging cycles, which translates to a solid 500 months or upwards of 40 years, future-proofing your card’s battery over time.

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect is how Slimca managed to cram ten high-precision components into this svelte frame, requiring over twenty manufacturing steps. The result is something that feels like it came from the future while other companies are still struggling with basic miniaturization. It’s actually a bit puzzling why Apple, with all its engineering prowess and obsession with thinness hasn’t realized that people want slim tracking devices, not phones so slim that they break, and mice so sleek that they’re counter-ergonormic.

For anyone who’s been frustrated by the bulk that trackers add to wallets or the annoyance of having to replace non-rechargeable models, the HERE 2 represents actual innovation in a category that hasn’t seen much. The fact that it can fit into a wallet slot without creating an uncomfortable bulge while still delivering cross-platform tracking is the kind of thoughtful design we should be demanding from all our gadgets.

This is what tech evolution should look like: solving actual problems instead of creating new ones. In a world of incremental updates masquerading as innovation, the Slimca HERE 2 is a refreshing reminder that meaningful improvements are still possible, even in seemingly mundane categories like item trackers.

The Slimca HERE 2 starts at $29.4 USD, a cool 30% off its $42 price tag. Buy 2 and you can snag them for $40, making the deal even more tempting. Slimca also offers a ‘Geeker’ variant of the HERE 2 that strips the stainless steel exterior off for a cyberpunk-ish look at the tracker’s inner components, and a MagSafe wallet to hold your HERE 2 with your other cards. The HERE 2 ships to select countries, with a February 2026 rollout date.
