The GPS accuracy, now 45% more accurate than before, proved invaluable during a panicked search for my escaped dog. Both watches’ Sunflower Positioning System with dual frequency GPS maintained precise tracking as I zigzagged through the neighborhood, ducked between houses, and eventually found him three blocks away at the local park. BMW has introduced the Concept Speedtop at the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, reaffirming its dedication to design-driven innovation and bespoke craftsmanship. Conceived as a coachbuilt limited edition, the Speedtop embodies the spirit of the classic shooting brake while showcasing modern engineering and aesthetics heading into the electrified future. Only 70 units of the tourer will ever be produced, targeting collectors and enthusiasts drawn to heritage-infused exclusivity.

Built by BMW’s specialized Manufaktur division in Dingolfing, the Concept Speedtop leverages the design philosophy of BMW’s historic grand tourers while evolving it for the modern era. The vehicle is based on the 8 Series convertible platform and features a bold reinterpretation of the shark-nose grille, a hallmark of BMW’s legacy. The sculpted front end flows into an elongated hood with twin air outlets and a central spline, reminiscent of the BMW 503 from the 1950s.

At nearly five meters long and two meters wide, the Speedtop exudes presence and poise. Designed as a space for dialogue, performance, and community, the open-air structure blossoms like a flower from the Venetian landscape, melding poetic form with a low-impact construction process. Created in collaboration with local innovators and built using sustainable, lime-based modules produced directly on the island, the amphitheater stands as a symbol of environmental and cultural synergy, timed to coincide with this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale. ‘Thanks to 3D printing and the use of sustainable materials, the structure integrates into the landscape with an organic form that, like a flower, emerges from the ground,’ shares the architect. ‘It is not just a stage space but a place for meeting and dialogue, where tradition and innovation merge in harmony with the environment.’

Built from approximately 750 dry-assembled blocks across 62 unique types, each module is 3D printed from a certified sustainable material composed primarily of natural lime. An on-site printer ran for nearly 200 hours, reducing transport emissions and enabling precise, high-quality production. The structure was built using a dry assembly method, making it easy to take apart and reuse. Its modular design uses one interlocking piece, giving the amphitheater strength and a uniform look.

Interesting vinyl players are not always about their tech prowess; for me, the looks matter. A recent entrant, the Audio-Technica AT-LPA2 was an instant winner in this department. Departing from the standard matte or wood finish, Audio Technica introduced a fully transparent form factor, a design not seen before. Now taking things back to the basics, yet with a charisma of its own: MoFi Electronics has teamed with Fender Musical Instruments Corporation to introduce the MoFi x Fender American Vintage Turntable that redefines craftsmanship and the good old turntable fashion for the retro-modern enthusiasts.

This collaboration isn’t just about design; it is a tribute to American audio heritage that blends MoFi’s acoustic know-how with Fender’s signature guitar-making genius. Born and brought up in America, by two native legacy brands, the American Vintage Turntable has a visual swag courtesy of the hand-finished sunburst alder-wood plinth, a 10-inch precision tonearm, and MoFi’s audiophile ethos within the iconic Stratocaster-inspired looks. To the accord, the turntable boasts the same three-color sunburst finish adorned by the ‘50s Fender Stratocaster (one of the most iconic electric guitar designs), catapulting the new turntable into a different, unmatchable league.

The Fender American Vintage Turntable is more than a curved body’s eye candy, built from a similar solid alder used in Stratocaster bodies. It is designed to offer low resonance so that you can hear clearly what’s in the vinyl grooves. The tri-color sunburst finish with a urethane seal, and the 10-inch aluminum tonearm featuring gimbaled bearings ensure low friction in the vertical and horizontal plane, made possible by mounting the turntable on advanced isolation feet that ensures the vibrations do not reach the plinth and tonearm.

The turntable features a precision electronic speed-controlled motor to let the user swap between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM at the touch of a button, which runs on a massive 6.8 lbs. Delrin platter (Delrin is a modern polymer developed by DuPont), adding durability and low friction to keep unwanted noise from reaching the stylus. The belt drive turntable has a compact 20.75-inch x 6-inch x 15.5-inch design, weighs 25.5 lbs., and is especially built for audiophiles and collectors who appreciate the warmth of analog sound without compromising style.

 

With only a limited number of examples for release, the American Vintage Turntable is slated to begin shipping in June 2025. Of course, when it does, it is not going to come cheap. Rubén Valdez Practice’s Spiritual Enclosure is a quiet, circular intervention designed for reflection in the desert of Todos Santos, Mexico. Commissioned by Paradero Hotels as a non-religious ceremony space, the project consciously works with light, material, and orientation, carved into the arid terrain and partially sunken as its circular concrete ring emerges just above ground level. Inside, the surface is left raw and exposed, with only the compacted earth underfoot containing it while it opens up to the sky.

 

Entry into Spiritual Enclosure is indirect, beginning with a single baffled ramp, rotated 45 degrees from the central axis, that leads visitors through a gradual sequence of turns before the full space is revealed. The decelerated approach here deepens the spatial transition from the exterior desert into the enclosure in a motion that mirrors the site’s ceremonial function.

Organic curves and minimal detailing allow the enclosure to dissolve into the landscape while framing its boundaries. A single semi-circular aperture opens the space toward distant mountain ridgelines, while a full circle of the sky is revealed within the boundary of the walls. Further, Rubén Valdez Practice orients the structure along an east-west axis, which allows the sun’s movement to register throughout the day and cast shifting shadows that mark the passage of time.

 

The space inside is vast and open, adorned with only rows of wooden benches and a polished obsidian disc, the latter referencing tezcatl mirrors that have been used for centuries in Mesoamerican cultures as tools of reflection and spiritual insight. Here, the Switzerland-based architects utilize the mirror as a visual and symbolic anchor, functioning as a small reflective void within the open circle.

The LANOVA TERRA Biowaste Table Lamp exemplifies the fusion of sustainability and minimalist design.Developed by NOI Creative for Lanova, this lighting solution utilizes agricultural byproducts—such as coffee grounds, rice husks, and wheat bran—to craft a lamp that is both environmentally conscious and aesthetically aligned with Nordic design principles. Meet the Invincible Roy Benavidez: A Hero Who Fought for His Brothers and for Us All

On this Memorial Day, we honor the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. While Master Sergeant Raul Perez “Roy” Benavidez is not among the fallen, his life was defined by their memory. Some call him the real-life Rambo.

Though Roy Benavidez survived the battlefield, he endured wounds so grave that many believed he wouldn’t make it. And yet, he lived. He lived to tell the stories of those who didn’t return. He lived to ensure the sacrifices made on foreign soil were not forgotten at home. And he lived to remind us all that patriotism doesn’t look one way. It also looks like a barefoot kid from Cuero, Texas, who grew up poor, orphaned, and proud.

Meet the Invincible Roy Benavidez

Born in 1935 to a Mexican American family in a small Texas town, Benavidez was no stranger to adversity. By age seven, he had lost both parents. As a child, he shined shoes, picked cotton, and sold tacos on street corners. At 15, he dropped out of school to help support his family.

He carried that unbreakable work ethic into the military, first serving in the Texas National Guard, then transitioning to active duty with the U.S. Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division. Later, as a Green Beret, Benavidez was deployed to Vietnam.

After stepping on a landmine during his first tour, doctors told him he’d never walk again. But Roy Benavidez wasn’t one to accept limits—not from poverty, not from injury, and certainly not from fate. Six months later, he walked out of the hospital and returned to duty.

Armed Only With a Knife

On May 2, 1968, in a harrowing six-hour battle in the Vietnamese jungle, Benavidez performed what President Ronald Reagan would later describe as “a story no one would believe if it were a movie.” Armed with only a knife and sheer determination, Benavidez charged into enemy fire to rescue a 12-man Special Forces team.

Shot, stabbed, beaten, and blasted by grenade shrapnel, he carried wounded soldiers to safety again and again. He shielded them with his body. He refused to stop fighting, even after being presumed dead and zipped into a body bag.

Legend has it, he spit on the medic to prove he was still alive. His daughter, Yvette Benavidez Garcia, calls it “the luckiest shot he ever made.”

The Man Behind the Medal

Benavidez was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor in 1981. But as his daughter points out, he never called it something he “won.”

“My dad was quick to correct that. He’d say, ‘I didn’t win anything—I earned it,’” Benavidez Garcia tells Nuestro Stories. “We still correct people when they say that.”

Off the battlefield, Roy Benavidez was a father, a man of deep faith, and a proud Mexican American who loved Freddy Fender and Hank Williams, and never wavered in his devotion to his community.

Despite his service, he returned to a country that didn’t always celebrate him. He endured discrimination, racism, and the invisible wounds of PTSD, long before those wounds had a name.

“He went through mental torture reliving the moments in combat because he was so committed to helping others,” says Yvette. “But he never once complained about the hate he received. His motto was always: ‘Don’t worry about it. You’re OK. The world’s wrong.’”

Latino, American, and Unbreakable

In an age when the contributions of Latinos to American history are still too often overlooked, Roy Benavidez stands as a testament to everything we are. Courageous. Devoted. Resilient. And yes, invincible.

“Would you do it over again?” Benavidez asked during a speech, when he received the Medal of Honor. ” … I’ll answer you in this manner: There’ll never be enough paper to print the money …nor enough gold in Fort Knox for me to have, to keep me from doing what I did. We should never look at the color of skin. The only color we should look at is right there: Red, white, and blue. We’re all Americans. I’m proud to be an American. And even prouder that I earned the priviledge … to wear the Green Beret. I live by the mantra: ‘Duty, honor, and country.’”
