The Photography Seoul Museum of Art introduces a new cultural presence to Dobong-gu, a district of northeastern Seoul that, is gradually seeing the introduction of contemporary landmarks — just next door is the newly completed Robot and AI Museum by Turkish studio Melike Altinisik Architects (MAA).

 

Designed in collaboration by Austrian firm Jadric Architektur and Korean studio 1990uao Architects, the newly completed museum spans six levels — four above ground, two below — totaling 7,048 square meters. With its broad concrete surfaces and filtered light, the building feels anchored in its setting while gesturing toward the evolving identity of Korean photography.

 

Its architectural frame balances introspection with openness. The architects have treated the museum like a vessel for light, emphasizing clean circulation, restrained materiality, and soft transitions between levels. Interior zones are punctuated by voids that offer moments of pause and reorientation. The inaugural exhibitions — The Radiance: Beginnings of Korean Art Photography and Storage Story — mark the museum’s public debut, both as an architecture and as an archive.

 

In The Radiance: Beginnings of Korean Art Photography, the museum presents seminal works by Jung Haechang, Lim Suk Je, Lee Hyungrok, Cho Hyundu, and Park Youngsook. The exhibition draws from a collection that now includes over 20,000 works and archival materials dating from the 1920s to 1990s. These early pieces are installed with a sense of spatial reverence, highlighting the relationship between image and context while allowing room for the visitor’s own interpretation of the medium’s historical shifts.

Galleries are proportioned to accommodate shifting media, from silver gelatin prints to video-based installations, while archival spaces are hidden yet essential. This provided the infrastructure for long-term research and preservation. The result is an architecture that feels both deliberate and flexible, suited to the museum’s dual identity as a site of display and a working archive.

 

The project sets an ambitious institutional vision. Beyond its exhibitions, the museum is positioned to encourage dialogue between artists, curators, and researchers. Programming includes regular talks, workshops, and events extending through the summer season, reinforcing its role as a dynamic cultural anchor for the region. Through sustained engagement with the medium’s history and future, the museum hopes to widen the public’s understanding of photographic art.

 

While deeply grounded in the context of Korean photography, the museum’s aspirations are outward-looking. As General Director Choi Eunju notes, the project complements SeMA’s other satellite institutions and aims to position Seoul as a critical node in Asia’s contemporary photography scene.

This Machine Extracts Gasoline From Thin Air… And It Could Literally Topple Economies

It looks like gasoline might finally be cool again. That’s a wild thing to say in 2025, but if you saw the Aircela device in action on a random Manhattan rooftop last week, you’d be tempted to say the same. Nestled among grimy air vents and skyline silhouettes was a machine that looked more like a triple-stacked oak barrel set than the future of clean energy. A future where you’d never have to complain about gas prices again, because you could just harvest gas from thin air.

Think of it as a molecular bartender. CO₂ in, gasoline out. The unit, roughly the size of a refrigerator, uses direct air capture tech to isolate carbon dioxide, then pushes it through a fuel synthesis process that doesn’t require the Earth to be mined, fractured, or torched in the process. What you get is a drop-in ready, sulphur-free, ethanol-free, heavy-metal-free gasoline that can go straight into your existing engine. No retrofits, no infrastructure overhaul, no endless legislative debates. You just plug it in and pour.

That’s a very big deal when you consider over 90 percent of the global vehicle fleet runs on gasoline. Transitioning to electric is great in theory, but bumpy in reality. EV infrastructure is still playing catch-up, and not every driver is ready to trade tailpipe growls for whisper-quiet motors. What Aircela offers is not a workaround or a compromise. It’s a plug-and-play leap forward. Cleaner gasoline, made where you need it, from the air you’re already breathing.

The company behind this is hardly your average garage startup. Aircela was founded in 2019 by Mia and Eric Dahlgren, and it’s already pulled in heavyweight backing. We’re talking Chris Larsen (of Ripple fame), Jeff Ubben (known for activist investing), and even Maersk Growth, the venture arm of the global shipping behemoth. They even managed to convert a skeptical former Porsche exec, Karl Dums, by showing that the Aircela wasn’t ‘Theranosian’ vaporware, or a distant pipe dream.

And here’s what really grabs you: the system works entirely on renewable electricity. No dirty grid hookups or carbon offsets. That’s critical, because making synthetic fuel often has a catch: energy use. If you’re burning coal to make clean gas, the math doesn’t favor you. But Aircela sidesteps that pitfall. Their rooftop unit in NYC pulled CO₂ out of the ambient air and turned it into gasoline right before everyone’s eyes. CEO Eric Dahlgren even filled a plastic bottle straight from the tap.

The scientific roots trace back to physicist Klaus Lackner, one of the earliest pioneers in direct air capture. Aircela didn’t invent the idea. They engineered it into a viable, shippable product. One machine, three barrels in size, capable of creating gallons of clean fuel daily. And it’s modular, so stack a few, power them with a solar array, and suddenly you’re a decentralized, renewable fuel producer. Imagine putting these on construction sites, off-grid cabins, or remote industrial bases.

They’re planning initial deployments by fall this year, targeting commercial and off-grid applications first. That’s smart – go where fuel logistics are a pain point, where clean gasoline isn’t a PR stunt but a practical advantage. The long play is broader adoption, of course. Homes, neighborhoods, maybe even gas stations. A network of clean-fuel microfactories humming away in the background, turning our biggest pollutant into something useful, again.

Gasoline has been vilified for good reason. It’s tangled up in climate change, war economies, and decades of corporate greenwashing. But Aircela has carved out a strange little pocket of optimism. And in doing so, it’s somehow scrubbed some of that dirt off gasoline’s reputation. Combined with all the great work Elon’s been doing to absolutely sour the EV market. *bombastic side eye*

This Minimal Lounge Chair Anchors You with Nothing but Pure Precision

Mid-century purists might wince at the thought, but the Plane Lounge Chair doesn’t care. It won’t play to nostalgia or mimicry. What it does instead is flatten the idea of a lounge chair to its most elemental form—and then, somehow, elevate that to high art. Designed by Jamie McLellan for Resident, the Plane feels like it was born on a CAD file and sculpted with a bandsaw in the same breath. It’s pure timber geometry, given purpose and poise.

Every surface is either dead flat or traced from a 2D curve. There’s no ambiguous blending or digitally massaged transitions. The legs aren’t legs – they’re slabs. Thick, grounded runners that stretch the full depth of the chair, as if they were always part of the floor itself. Between them, a cantilevered seat sits like a wooden diving board, broad and unapologetic. It doesn’t taper, doesn’t float. It just exists – with a certain architectural inevitability.

The backrest, a single vertical sheet, tilts just enough to catch your spine. No lumbar games or upholstery tricks. Just honest inclination. And while the whole thing reads rigid, sitting in it is like leaning into trust. You’re not cradled, you’re anchored. The comfort comes not from softness, but from precision. The angle of the back, the depth of the seat (just over 20 inches), the thickness of each timber slab – it’s all calibrated to let the material do the talking.

In a way, the Plane Lounge Chair channels the same quiet radicalism as Gerrit Rietveld’s Red and Blue Chair. Both are object and idea at once. But where Rietveld’s piece feels like a manifesto in color and form, McLellan’s version whispers its intent. It’s heavy, it’s grounded, and yet it doesn’t dominate the room. It doesn’t need to. It becomes the room’s pause button.

Built in New Zealand from solid oak or ash, depending on the finish, the Plane doesn’t hide its joins or complicate its story. No complex carpentry tricks, no dovetails begging for attention. The flat-pack aesthetic is intentional, even proud. It’s as if someone asked, “How few moves can we make while still creating a place worth staying in?”

And that’s really the point. In an era of noise and over-design, the Plane Lounge Chair speaks in geometry and silence. It doesn’t compete. It holds space. With no soft edges, it somehow softens the room. A contradiction? Sure. But in the best kind of way – the kind that feels like clarity.

The Opera Neon browser has AI agents that can work on projects and tasks of the users even when they’re offline. Dubbed agentic AI browsing capabilities, there’s a chat feature on the browser that can take on the request, which is the first step. Here, users ask the AI agents to search the web for what they need, receive answers about a question asked, and get a summary of what the webpage they’re on is about. These features aren’t new, however. Many apps on different browsers can do them, too, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

 

What the browser wants to contribute to the table is the ‘automated’ routine web tasks. It means that the Opera Neon AI agents can fill out forms, reserve hotel rooms, book flights, shop, and even create a website for the users when they’re not on their computers. The browser interacts with different websites itself and performs these tasks on its own, all the while ‘preserving users’ privacy and security,’ says the Opera team. With this, AI isn’t only a system, but the ‘chip’ that powers a group of digital, unseen robots that can complete tasks independently.

Three options: chat, do, and make

 

What Opera Neon feels sets it apart from other browsers is the fact that its AI agents can continue working on the users’ creation even when they go offline. People, for example, can ask the browser to make a game, a report, a snippet of code, or even a website. The ever-loyal AI agents of Opera Neon then research, design, and build all these and just forward the final output to the users. The company says that they can also ask the agents to make multiple things or work on different tasks at once. There are three options to choose from once the users are on the browser. They’re named Chat, Do, and Make. With Chat, it has the same function as ChatGPT and Gemini.

 

Do is the one that does the planning, booking, buying, and reserving. The team says this system understands webpages through the DOM tree and layout data, ‘not by analyzing pixels or using a virtual pointer. Because it operates natively on your browser, your data – like browsing history, logins, and cookies – stays private and local.’ Make, then, is the manifestor. It’s the one that can develop a video game or a website with a niche function like comparing stocks. When it faces problems along the way, it tries to correct and fix them itself. There’s almost no external help needed, as the company believes. These ‘hubs’ and AI agents are all present in the Opera Neon browser. A heads-up, however, that they’re only available through the company’s ‘premium subscription product.’

LEGO x Nike Air Max Dn bright yellow sneaker likely to drop in August, starting $160

It is not out of the ordinary to find Lego builders tinkering with their fantasy and creating Nike sneakers out of LEGO pieces alone. You would remember the Hungarian builder Tamás Borján, who created a Nike Air Jordan 11 using nothing but our beloved plastic building blocks. It is the creations like these that have always left us fans yearning for an official partnership between our two loves – LEGO and Nike – to come together for an official shoe that you and I can flaunt.

Our wish was granted last year when the two brands tied the knot; coming together to “inspire a world where sport and creative play always win.” Leaving us bearded out of the fun, the partnership is directed at promoting ‘sports and creative play’ for all kids. If it doesn’t bother you, and you want to appreciate what the two stalwarts in their own ways are creating, check out the LEGO x Nike Air Max Dn: the first fruit of their merriment sprouting out in pictures on the internet.

It’s darn yellow for a shoe, but that’s probably the color kids need to walk the streets in 2025. The playful outing in LEGO’s signature yellow, is fun and fantastic for Nike, and that love for this collaboration shows vividly on the sneaker. The Swoosh brand has not shied away from sharing the branding and overlaying the upper with tactile rubber studs that mimic the plastic bricks.

Nike takes the Swoosh from the lateral setting and slaps it on the back of the heel counter and under the foot. The sides of the shoe instead have the rubber studs, while the usual Air Max Dn on the tongue label is replaced with the LEGO logo. For more nuances, the Air Bubbles in the sole feature logos and minifigures. And because it’s dear, the sneaker is not coming out without a matching package. A special packaging has therefore been prepared for the collaborative silhouette.

While you’d expect the LEGO x Nike Air Max Dn to land as soon as possible, there is no definite release date yet. Speculation is, the sneaker could release in kids’ sizing in August this year, starting at $160. Both Nike and LEGO have chosen to stay silent on this for now. But, back in 2024 when they sealed the multi-year collaboration deal, a line-up of co-branded products was assured to be released this year. The LEGO x Nike Air Max Dn could be the start of a long list of Nike products with LEGO treatment we are going to see in the coming days. So are you game for this cool pair of shoes?

With Love pt. III, Label architecture completes the latest chapter in the transformation of La Ferme du Château sports center in Loverval, Belgium, adding two architectural elements: a solar canopy for an outdoor climbing wall and a translucent roof for the elevated passerelle of the site. For their 450-square-meter intervention, the architects introduce robust materials, raw concrete, and black steel, with light-filtering polycarbonate and glowing polyester volumes. While the canopy spells out ‘L O V E’ through a grid of photovoltaic panels, casting geometric shadows across the ground, the passerelle’s soft, telescope-like shell adds a sculptural counterpoint, glowing gently at night like a celestial body suspended in the landscape.

At the heart of Love pt. III stands the new climbing canopy. Label architecture’s structure of black steel and photovoltaic panels hovers above the site like a typographic sunshade. The gridded roof—anchored by sharply inclined concrete supports—functions as both a piece of infrastructure and a graphic installation. Its legibility emerges only when viewed from below, with the letters ‘L O V E’ gradually revealed through the interplay of light and shadow. The structure creates a stage-like zone for public activity while embedding a positive message into the architectural fabric.

 

Through the passerelle roof, the Brussels-based team introduces a different spatial language. A polyester volume wraps the roof in a translucent skin, evoking forms that lie somewhere between a telescope and an igloo. Its luminous surface glows at night, an ethereal presence that sparks dreamlike associations.

The two interventions respond to the site with precision and intentionality. The climbing canopy reanimates a pre-existing flight of concrete steps, integrating itself into the terrain and extending the raw material palette introduced in Love pt. I. The black steel framework echoes earlier phases of the project, reinforcing a sense of continuity while evolving the narrative. Rather than isolated gestures, the structures form a dialogue with each other—and with the past—folding functional upgrades into a larger architectural storyline.

 

Despite their utilitarian roles, both structures are animated by a quiet theatricality. The solar pavilion seems to follow the arc of the sun, while the passerelle cover gazes skyward like an optical instrument. Together, they suggest characters in a speculative fiction, each with its own rhythm, scale, and personality.
