T ‘able Urban Furniture Concept Makes Public Spaces Inclusive

Public seating has a problem. Walk through any city and you’ll find the same story repeated endlessly: benches and tables that work for some people while completely excluding others. The T ‘able urban furniture concept by Burcu Nehir Tüm tackles this head-on, reimagining what happens when we design for everyone from the start.

Most public furniture treats accessibility as an afterthought, creating what the designer calls “an exclusionary structure.” Fixed tables with uniform heights ignore individual differences. Even well-intentioned solutions often miss the mark, unintentionally creating separate spaces that stigmatize rather than include.

“Even systems designed with the intention of providing solutions can unintentionally generate a perception that limits and segregates users,” Tüm explains. This segregation restricts social participation, turning public spaces into divided territories rather than shared communities.

T ‘able flips this approach entirely by defining three distinct access zones instead of restrictive fixed seating. Wheelchair users can approach comfortably from multiple angles without being relegated to designated spots. The open design means everyone gathers at the same table, not separate ones.

The curved side forms serve dual purposes, providing structural support while functioning as practical hangers for bags and personal belongings. This thoughtful detail shows how inclusive design often benefits everyone, not just those with specific needs.

The modular construction uses bent sheet metal profiles and flat panels, creating visual coherence while allowing infinite configurations. Parks, plazas, campus quads, or transit hubs can all accommodate different arrangements based on specific needs and spatial constraints.

The slatted metal construction feels contemporary and approachable, with color options ranging from warm copper tones to cool blues. The rhythmic pattern creates visual lightness while maintaining structural integrity and weather resistance for outdoor use.

What makes T ‘able particularly powerful is how it supports genuine shared participation. Users can face each other naturally, collaborate on projects, or simply enjoy meals together without physical or social barriers dictating who sits where.

Fantastic Industrial Design Student Work: A Shovel That Helps Hikers Leave No Trace

This Hideaway shovel is by Wilhelm Berbig, done as an Industrial Design student at the Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien (University of Applied Arts Vienna).

In Austria, there are signposted hiking trails where you can bivouac in small abandoned sheds. Savvy hikers on multi-day treks bring their own toilet paper, but these sheds have no bathrooms.

Berbig proposes stocking them with this shovel, in order that hikers can relieve themselves while leaving no trace.

“What makes this spade more suitable for this special application than a standard planting spade is, on the one hand, the deliberately heavy construction for durability and theft protection and, on the other hand, the toilet roll holder integrated into the handle, which unmistakably communicates its purpose.”

Although the shovel is super-heavy, Berbig notes that it “does not have to be used for days on end, but is designed to enable even inexperienced users to dig a hole efficiently. The well-dimensioned tread edges on both sides and the 42 mm thick maple wood handle help with this.”

He’s also thought through the manufacturing: “The spade blade is cut from a standardised steel tube, resulting in hardly any waste, and the tread edges are then bent and the handle holder welded.”

Stocking the trail sheds with these shovels, Berbig reckons, would “serve both as a recognition feature and as a subtle reminder of the cycle of nature and is intended to encourage guests to leave no trace.”

AI Bunny is a talking device that can teach math or blow your mind with surprising facts

Not too long ago, smart assistants that make voice-driven interaction were at the forefront of our daily tech communications before ChatGPT, image generators, and other AI technologies started making us dependent. We are now enslaved by new-age tech and endless social media feeds for entertainment and educational requirements.

As these technologies evolve, it is imperative to create a balance between distraction-free education and playful content consumption. To make that possible, in a fun and interactive manner, with an amalgamation of smart assistant and generative AI, a DIYer has built a Rabbit R1-style Bunny from scratch. Called the AI Bunny, it is a cute device with a small screen and offers voice-driven interaction to “encourage active participation instead of passive scrolling,” the creator mentions.

Yes, the educational Bunny is provided with a screen and a camera, but its main idea is to become an interactive learning companion that listens, talks, and teaches you without visual scrolling or other distractions. It’s therefore a cute, visual distraction-free educational device that initially looks like a yellow bunny toy, but is intended to be a very capable personal AI assistant you can carry in your pocket.

Mukesh Sankhla built the AI Bunny powered by the UNIHIKER K10 single-board computer and has packed it with a sensor, a camera, a mic, and a display inside of a 3D printed bunny-faced enclosure. The delightful DIY educational gadget allows users to – instead of scrolling like on another device – engage with it by asking questions verbally and getting thoughtful answers in the same manner.

AI Bunny has been created to listen, speak, and interact using edge AI and runs on the UNIHIKER K10. The device can recognize your voice, translate languages, and engage with you in multi-turn conversations just like a smart assistant using large language models. It is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which draws juice from an onboard USB Type-C port.

To facilitate its core objective of being a talking and teaching device, AI Bunny has a 2.8-inch LCD touchscreen and supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for connectivity. With its built-in camera, the device also captures pictures, which it can analyse and also describe what is in the picture, ensuring vision-based interaction and object recognition. AI Bunny, with all its capabilities, may seem an incredible device to own, but the talking educational gadget is currently a maker’s project only. It means the device is not available off the shelf to buy. Astronauts Will Return to the Moon Wearing Gold-Plated Oakleys

“In space the sun is really harsh, it feels as if it’s piercing through your eyes,” says Koichi Wakata, an astronaut and the Chief Technology Officer for Axiom Space. “We need an exceptional visor system to protect [our] eyes and [offer] maximum visibility to enable [astronauts] to work in the challenging lunar environment.” The Texas-based company, which is making the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit that astronauts on NASA’s Artemis III mission will wear, turned to Oakley to develop the visor.

“The next person to walk on the Moon will be wearing Oakley’s next-gen High-Definition Optics (HDO), and that’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly,” says Ryan Saylor, Oakley’s SVP of Advanced Product Development.

The company developed multiple layers of coating, including one of 24K gold, in order to tune the transmittance of light while protecting astronauts from solar radiation, infrared and UV light (which the gold filters out).

The scratch-resistant outer coating they developed is tough enough to withstand lunar dust, and there’s also a flip-down visor to completely block light from the upper portion of the visor during super-harsh conditions.

Artemis III is scheduled to launch in 2027.

A Robotic Tattoo Machine

An Austin-based startup called Blackdot has developed a robotic tattooing machine.

The device was created with the help of Yan Azdoud, a medical device engineer with expertise in “hyper-elastic surfaces,” and its surgical precision has a startling payoff: Because its tattooing process only penetrates as deeply as necessary, the company claims that it’s more comfortable to undergo and has never caused bleeding nor scarring in the 90-plus people who volunteered as guinea pigs.

“Blackdot’s patented technology is engineered to tattoo swiftly, predictably and with minimal discomfort for stunning tattoos that will spark conversation,” the company writes. “Experience a new degree of quality and a new industry standard.”

Rather than replacing human tattoo artists, the company’s intent is to allow them to license their work: The company is setting up an arrangement where the tattoo artist creates the design, the machine does the work at a Blackdot studio, and the tattoo artist gets a cut.

Blackdot has announced plans to have their machines in 40 locations, but currently they’ve got just one machine in operation, in residence at New York City’s Bang Bang Tattoo. (Bang Bang has renamed the machine AERO, for Artist Enabled Robotic Operator.)

ASUS ROG NUC (2025) packs RTX 5080 power and a wild price in a tiny PC

Gaming PCs have been getting smaller for years, but ASUS just dropped something that makes you question what’s actually possible in a compact form factor. The ROG NUC (2025) NUC15JNK looks innocent enough sitting on your desk, yet it packs more power than gaming rigs twice its size.

Of course, all that performance comes at a price that might make your wallet cry. Starting at $2,599 and climbing to $3,199 for the fully loaded version, this little powerhouse costs significantly more than last year’s model, which started around $1,799 for similar configurations.

Designer: ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers)

The design changes are immediately noticeable if you’re familiar with the previous generation. ASUS ditched the softer, more understated look for something with sharper edges and more aggressive styling. The new translucent accent panel lights up with AURA Sync RGB, making it actually worth showing off.

That said, the most practical improvement might be the tool-less chassis design. Unlike the 2024 model, which required some disassembly for upgrades, you can now pop this thing open without hunting for screwdrivers. It’s a simple change that makes maintenance and component swaps infinitely easier.

The performance leap is where things get interesting. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor brings better efficiency and AI acceleration compared to last year’s chips. However, the real star is the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, a massive upgrade from the previous generation’s RTX 4070.

This graphics card enables genuine 4K gaming with ray tracing in a chassis barely larger than a toaster oven. The system can drive up to five 4K displays simultaneously, which opens up possibilities for both gaming setups and professional workstations that need serious screen real estate.

Thermal management required serious engineering to handle all that extra power. ASUS implemented triple-fan cooling with dual vapor chambers, replacing the dual-fan setup from before. The result is remarkably quiet operation despite the increased heat output, though sustained loads will still make it audible.

The 32GB DDR5-6400 RAM and 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD provide plenty of headroom for demanding applications. WiFi 7 and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity ensure future compatibility, though these premium features definitely contribute to the elevated pricing that puts it in luxury territory.

That pricing creates an interesting dilemma for potential buyers. You’re paying premium laptop prices for a desktop that can’t leave your desk. The value proposition really depends on how much you prioritize having cutting-edge performance in the smallest possible package over traditional considerations.
