The Mexico City-based architects at Estudio Atemporal organize Queña House over two distinct levels. The lower level, partially embedded into the terrain, forms a heavy, stone-like base. This area houses three guest bedrooms and service spaces, all of which open directly to a garden, encouraging interaction with the outdoors. Strategically positioned windows and openings invite cross-breezes, control sunlight, and frame views of the coast. The upper level sits lightly above this solid base and hosts the primary living spaces and the master bedroom beneath the expansive roof.

 

A concrete staircase, treated as a sculptural monolith, cuts through the center of the home. This element divides the public and private areas, acting as both a circulation core and visual anchor that connects the two levels and leads toward the pool area. The plan follows an L-shaped configuration, guiding movement through the site and shaping the experience of the home through varying perspectives and scales. This layout supports a fluid transition between indoor and outdoor life, prioritizing passive comfort strategies, including cross ventilation, natural lighting, and shade, over mechanical systems. A rainwater collection system integrated into the roof offers seasonal self-sufficiency, further tying the home to its environment.

Nothing Power (1) battery bank brings back the Glyph interface

Nothing brought to the gadget world what others shirked to do. Carl Pei was very clear with his vision for the fresh brand, and that vision met fruition with the tech community appreciating what they brought to the stale gadget arena. It all started with the Ear (1) before venturing into the highly competitive smartphone world with the Phone (1). Three years hence, Nothing Phone (3) stands as a strong challenge for established players and other brands looking to bite the maximum chunk of market share.

During all this time, Nothing was also working on a battery bank, which they scrapped for developmental reasons. The primary reason being the susceptibility to cracking in case of accidental falls. The concept design world held onto this idea, and we saw a Nothing-themed battery bank a couple of years ago, proposing what a different approach the brand can try out for this lucrative product segment. Now, yet another concept design tries to reiterate the need for a Nothing power bank.

Glyph interface of the Nothing Phone (1) made all the headlines when it was launched, but seeing the recent Phone (3) indicates the brand’s pedigree towards more conventional smartphone designs. This concept wants to maintain the status quo of the glyph interface with a design language reminiscent of the first two products. The design ethos revolves around the belief that good design isn’t just about “how something looks, it’s about how it makes you feel.” The design process of the Nothing Power (1) began with the concept of bringing a cleaner silhouette to the product with enough space real estate to revive the Glyph interface. The goal of the product is to explore the transparent layers, bold light paths, and interaction through illumination.

The power bank is inspired by the circuit pathways and physical logic of the Phone (1), focusing on the visual language. Every light on the back of the gadget has to have a meaning, and therefore indicate the properties, such as the battery level. The glyph interface goes beyond the internal battery indication and connects with your smartphone to indicate notifications and charging status as well. Turning light into information, the power bank’s Glyph interface is precise and purposeful. The battery bank has a 20,000 mAh battery, which can charge your phone at least three times over, and fast charging of 65W, which goes to 50% in under 20 minutes.

Loaded with dual USB-C and USB-A ports, the power bank is ready for any device in your arsenal. The power bank comes in two color options – white and black – which go with most of your other gadgets. The compact gadget is truly a detour from the usual design of the battery banks that all look and feel the same.

Palmanova Center: a New Urban Model for Asunción

 

Jasper Architects unveils plans for the Palmanova Center in Asunción, Paraguay, a 200,000 square-meter mixed-use development set to begin construction this October. Rising along Avenida Primer Presidente, the project integrates residential, commercial, and office spaces into a dense vertical composition rising from a public, landscaped valley.

 

Planned as a prototype for high-density living in the Paraguayan capital, the Palmanova Center organizes four towers above a five-story base. The plinth is intersected by a sequence of terraces, shaded walkways, and gardens inspired by the region’s cañadas — natural ravines that shape local ecosystems.

The scheme of Jasper Architects’ Palmanova Center emphasizes connections between people, their neighbors, and Asunción’s natural setting. The design team plans a pedestrian route to thread through the center of the site, linking retail, cafés, a supermarket, and wellness facilities. Bridges will span across planted areas, creating elevated crossings between buildings while maintaining open ground-level sightlines.

 

Two of the towers will house offices, standing at 36 and 33 floors, with adaptable floor plates suited to different tenant needs. The other two, at 40 and 37 floors, will contain more than two hundred residential units ranging from compact one-bedrooms to expansive penthouses. Rooftops are designed as shared leisure spaces, with botanical gardens, infinity pools, and panoramic viewing platforms.

Orientation and Environmental Performance

 

The Palmanova towers’ offset forms by Jasper Architects are oriented to capture daylight and prevailing breezes, while preserving unobstructed views of Asunción across the site. This positioning also allows natural light to penetrate into the lower levels of the complex, including the pedestrian valley. At 180 meters (590 feet) tall, Palmanova Center will be among the city’s highest structures

 

Building envelopes combine high-performance double glazing with aluminum composite panels capable of reflecting 40% of solar radiation. Shaded balconies and green terraces form part of a broader passive design strategy, enhancing thermal comfort and biodiversity.

 

The development is targeting LEED certification, incorporating water recycling systems, stormwater management, and renewable energy generation. Landscaped areas will extend from the street level to the uppermost terraces, contributing to Asunción’s urban greenery.

I remember sitting glued to the TV, watching grainy footage of rally cars sliding sideways through impossible turns. Nothing quite captured my imagination like the blue and gold Subaru Impreza WRC, especially when Colin McRae was behind the wheel, pushing it to its absolute limit. That car, with its distinctive thrumming engine and massive rear wing, became a legend, a digital extension of my own driving fantasies in games like Colin McRae DIRT. McRae’s audacious driving style and the Impreza’s raw power created a cultural phenomenon, cementing its place in motorsport history and the hearts of gearheads worldwide.

Now, that legendary machine has been meticulously recreated in LEGO form by a fan designer named TOMOELL, and it is currently making waves on the LEGO Ideas platform. Designed by Milan-based ZIMMER Studio, a dual-store concept in Palma de Mallorca explores new approaches to multibrand retail through a precise use of materials and spatial contrast. ES_MORE combines tactile finishes, sculptural forms, and an interplay between art and fashion. The project is composed of two distinct yet conceptually connected spaces: one dedicated to womenswear and the other to menswear. Each store was conceived to reflect the brand’s refined identity, offering a unique and immersive retail experience rooted in material expression and spatial storytelling.

The womenswear store is defined by a serene and intimate atmosphere. Neutral-toned textured walls create a soft visual backdrop, while a warm ceiling made of woven rattan and wood envelops the space, adding a domestic, almost tactile quality. A modular bookshelf runs along one side, hosting both fashion items and curated artworks in collaboration with L21 Gallery, establishing a thoughtful dialogue between fashion and contemporary art. The clothing racks, lightweight structures suspended from a system of rods and local stone counterweights, emphasize suspension and airiness, key themes throughout the space. Even the structural columns have been reinterpreted with sculptural interventions that balance aesthetics and function. In contrast, for the menswear store, designers at ZIMMER Studio compose a bolder, more tactile identity. Brick becomes the protagonist of the space, particularly in a large feature wall placed opposite a mirror, which visually expands the store and intensifies the interplay of texture and light.

Materials were selected for their raw and authentic feel, reinforcing the space’s sense of solidity and character. The coffered ceiling serves as a diffused lighting source, providing an even glow across the room. Wood is used in two contrasting finishes: smooth planes that highlight the architectural lines, and hand-carved wooden elements that introduce artisanal details and a sense of craftsmanship. Both environments are unified through the inclusion of iconic furniture pieces, such as the Spanish Chair by Børge Mogensen, which reinforce the project’s balance between heritage and contemporary design. The entire concept is grounded in a meticulous material selection process and a sensitivity to spatial rhythm, with every element, custom or curated, playing a role in shaping an elevated and emotionally resonant shopping experience.
