The Motofocker Velocar, developed by designer Máté Fock, is a three-wheeled human-electric hybrid vehicle positioned between a bicycle and a car. The project explores how lightweight construction and accessible materials can create an alternative mode of transport with features that combine the advantages of both vehicle types.

 

Structurally, the Velocar is built from water and cooking-resistant birch plywood for the chassis, with canvas used for the body and seat. Additional parts are sourced from standard bicycle components or adapted from semi-finished industrial products. This choice of materials emphasizes recyclability, repairability, and accessibility, allowing the vehicle to be fabricated with basic hand tools, even in a DIY workshop environment. The hybrid design addresses specific functional needs. Compared to a bicycle, it offers a more comfortable seating position, weather protection, improved stability, and greater luggage capacity, with reduced wind resistance. Compared to a car, it requires no driving license, operates as a bicycle up to 25 km/h with a 250W pedelec system, and remains lightweight and low-cost.

This MG Concept Car Uses MIT’s Ionic Propulsion Instead of an Engine

Remember when MIT flew that tiny airplane using nothing but ionic wind back in 2018? Steven Barrett and his team managed to get their 2.45-kilogram craft airborne for 60 meters using electroaerodynamic propulsion, basically ionizing air molecules and pushing them backward to create thrust. The plane looked like a weird skeletal kite with a bunch of thin wires, hardly the stuff of sci-fi dreams, but it proved that you could move through air without any moving parts, fuel, or exhaust. The power requirements were brutal though, around 40,000 volts to generate just 3.2 newtons of thrust, which is why that first flight lasted all of 12 seconds and needed a tether to a ground-based power supply.

Fast forward six years and Korean designer Hanum Jeong has taken that same ionic propulsion concept and wrapped it in what might be the most gorgeous automotive fever dream I’ve seen all year. The MG EXE ION concept celebrates the British brand’s centennial with a design so radical it makes the Vision GT cars look conservative. Jeong hasn’t just sketched a pretty car and slapped some sci-fi labels on it. Every surface, every lighting element, every aerodynamic channel speaks to the central ionic propulsion theme in ways that actually make visual sense. The glowing teal accents trace paths where ionized air might flow, the rear tunnels suggest massive airflow manipulation, and that central disc behind the cockpit reads like a giant ionic drive ring.

MIT’s plane needed those 40,000 volts because air is a terrible conductor, but Jeong’s design suggests massive surface area for ionization through those rear tunnels and integrated wing elements. The visual language tells a story of a vehicle that doesn’t just push air aside like conventional cars but actively manipulates and charges it. Those teal lighting elements probably represent the high-voltage electrodes needed to ionize nitrogen molecules in the atmosphere. The seamless integration of these elements into the bodywork creates a cohesive narrative that most concept cars completely miss.

The proportions scream single-seat race car mixed with jet fighter, which makes perfect sense for a propulsion system borrowed from aviation. That ultra-low nose, the pronounced rear deck, and the central cockpit position all optimize for airflow management rather than traditional automotive packaging constraints. Jeong has essentially designed a ground-effect aircraft that happens to have wheels, and the result is stunning. The wheel covers with their radial patterns and matching teal accents reinforce the electrical theme while hiding what are probably conventional motors for low-speed maneuvering. Because let’s be honest, ionic propulsion might work for sustained high-speed flight, but you’re still going to need something to get out of your garage.

The silver and black paint scheme with those neon teal highlights hits that perfect sweet spot between classic concept car drama and legitimate functional communication. Unlike the overwrought styling exercises we usually see from student designers, every element here serves the ionic propulsion narrative. The mirrored presentation photos emphasize the design’s purity while those motion-blur shots with light streaks actually illustrate how ionic wind might interact with the vehicle’s surfaces. This is how you do concept car photography that enhances rather than distracts from the core idea.

Of course, the physics remain brutal for real-world application. MIT’s plane managed about 2.6% efficiency in converting electrical energy to thrust, compared to 85%+ for electric motors. Scaling that up to move a 1,000-kilogram vehicle would require power levels that make current EV charging infrastructure look quaint. But Jeong’s concept captures something essential about how future propulsion might integrate with vehicle design in ways that current EVs, with their hidden motors and conventional layouts, completely ignore. This design makes ionic propulsion feel inevitable rather than impossible, which is exactly what great concept work should accomplish.

Reborn House adapts to urban change while preserving memory

 

Located in a suburban area of Bangkok, the Reborn House project by DARE – Design Arena + Research sits in a village split by a new public road, transforming a serene area into a busy district. The 30-year-old house, influenced by Thailand’s early modern style with compartmentalized rooms, complex hip roofs, and wooden elements, required a transformation to address the loss of privacy, security, and green space caused by urban disruption. The clients requested a refreshed design and a new spatial experience that encourages family interaction while preserving the house’s spirit.

 

Recognizing the material value and the aesthetic of craftsmanship, existing key elements, such as the roof, wooden staircase, parquet flooring, and curved wall, are preserved. Rather than blending old and new, the design sets up a visual contrast to create a dialogue. A light-toned palette highlights and elevates the existing features, celebrating them as sculptural presences within a refreshed setting.

DARE transforms a 30-year-old house into an open, social space

 

The design team at DARE – Design Arena + Research reimagines formerly compartmentalized rooms into an open, light-filled space that fosters family connection. A southwest bedroom prone to heat gain is relocated to the first floor, and its floor plate is removed. This results in a unified double-height space that allows visual and social connections across levels while reintroducing the once-hidden staircase as a sculptural centerpiece. Large openings are introduced for ventilation, natural light, and garden views, while solid walls on the southwest side block intense heat and provide privacy from a new construction site. The entrance, with a stepped planter and a terrace, resolves the existing level change. Meanwhile, other bedrooms, service areas, and sanitary systems are retained to minimize construction cost and waste.

Curved walls and fences reference the village’s existing forms

 

The facade design emphasizes a simple yet strong expression. Chosen for its translucency, ease of installation, lightness, affordability, and weather resistance, the textile facades gently diffuse daylight and cast soft shadows while providing privacy. They create a reversal at night, glowing softly to give the house a distinctive presence. A combination of solid wall fence and white aluminum louvers provides privacy and security while balancing visibility and interaction with the neighbors. Inspired by the existing curved elements in the village, the curvature of the facades and fences connects the house to its context through a contemporary language.

 

Addressing the diminishing greenery caused by urban encroachment, the design maximizes green space by preserving an existing garden and trees on the northeast, introducing new ones around the house, and creating a dedicated green pocket along the sculpted fence for sharing visual and ecological benefits with the neighbors. The removal of the front lower roof expands the entrance, transforming it into a more open and welcoming space. In return, its existing beams on the second floor are repurposed as planters, creating vertical greening. The result is a sensitive dialogue between memory and modernity where family interaction is fostered through open and connected space.

Architecture lovers spend decades dreaming of owning a Frank Lloyd Wright home. Most settle for pilgrimage visits. The reality hits hard when they discover that Wright’s surviving homes rarely change hands, and when they do, the price tags often exceed seven figures.

Coway Duo concept brings water purifier and coffee capsule machine together

As an avid coffee drinker whose resolution is to make more coffee at home, I want to have different options for my own, personal coffee nook. It’s a given to have a coffee maker, a French press, a pour over, and other tools of the trade. I do not yet have an espresso machine and so I settle for a capsule coffee machine. So when new “toys” show up, I’m always interested to see what else I can add to my collection.

VLND Studio has introduced an exciting new concept with the Coway Duo, a combination water purifier and capsule coffee machine designed to bring both convenience and style to modern kitchens. While the Duo remains a concept at this time, its innovative features and elegant design are already turning heads among appliance enthusiasts and design lovers alike.

The Duo concept is thoughtfully divided into two distinct sections. The left side of the machine features a sleek silver finish and dispenses purified water. Ellipsoidal Greenhouse built for a Brooklyn community garden

 

SAW.Earth has directed a student workshop to create an ellipsoidal greenhouse, optimizing solar exposure for the Scholes Street Community Garden in Brooklyn, NY. Over 4 weeks, with students from the New York Institute of Technology Graduate School of Architecture and Design, the team constructed an ellipse-shaped greenhouse with tiered wooden shelving to maximize area along the sun path of the garden.

Students, along with the design team at SAW.Earth, used cedar wood and copper flashing to allow for subtle aging over time. This marks the sixth completed permanent structure SAW.Earth’s program at NYIT SoAD has built, creating structures for community gardens throughout NYC.

This LEGO iMac G3 in Bondi Blue is the most nostalgic brickset you’ll see today

LEGO fan designer named Terauma has designed a LEGO iMac G3 you’d definitely want to build someday. It is made from 700 bricks and is conceptualized identical to the iMac G3 that came to life in 1998 when Steve Jobs made his return to Apple. Every detail of the LEGO design captures the original iMac G3’s look and feel, staying true to its classic aesthetic, but in a smaller form factor than the actual computer.

So, the LEGO-size iMac G3 is going to be easier to build and should take up far less space on the work desk. At a mere glance, you can see the clear domination of the iMac G3’s distinguishing see-through look, which is replicated to the T in LEGO. In fact, Terauma has used the iconic Bondi Blue theme using carefully chosen translucent pieces that match the color just fine.

We have seen iMac G3-inspired translucent iPhone cases, and Apple Watch chargers that looks like the G3, but this is the first time perhaps that we are seeing someone attempt its replica in LEGO. Apple built the iMac G3 in the late 90s; it has been discontinued for years now, yet there is a unique fascination for the machine. It looked way ahead of its time back then, and still remains a device with an overpowering design aesthetic. The recreated LEGO version of the PC is therefore an exciting product to behold, not only for brick lovers, but Apple fanboys as well; that is, if it ever entered production.

The idea is definitely commendable, and no wonder it is getting ample love on LEGO Ideas, where it remains up for voting, and is going strong with 4860 votes at the time of writing. It should get at least 10,000 votes to make the cut and have LEGO consider it as a viable set worth investing in. Even amassing the threshold will not assure that this set will see the light of day. LEGO would have to go through Apple’s stringent policies around replication of their designs, which seems a long shot to us.

Terauma’s eye for detail is not limited to the exterior alone, he has gone on to build a small cathode ray tube and a motherboard, which again takes a leaf from iMac’s innards and should have the techies appreciating the authenticity. If there was still scope; the hockey puck USB mouse and the accompanying iMac keyboard, along with their translucent cables that would age with time, should have you floored. All in all, built brick by brick, this iMac G3 is a LEGO Ideas gem you shouldn’t miss!
