This Trekka 01, by Australian pod trailer manufacturer Stockman, is an off-road camper trailer designed specifically for e-bikers.

Rather than having an exterior rack for the bikes, the Trekka has a two-bike garage in the nose, keeping them out of the elements. Loading is made easier via a retractable ramp.

In the garage, the bikes can be charged while you’re on the move.

Stockman offers an option for rooftop solar.

When it’s time to set up camp, the trailer automatically levels itself.

The interior is well-appointed. The roof pops up to provide headspace and light, and there’s a queen-sized bed in the back.

A bench seat and table by the entry provide space to dine or work.

The tabletop stows away when not needed (I have no idea where it goes, they don’t mention it) and there’s a small kitchen opposite the bench.

Fore of the kitchen there’s a wet room containing a shower and toilet. This being a pop-up camper, the walls don’t go all the way to the ceiling, but at least there’s visual privacy.

Incredibly, this camper has two kitchens. The second one is an outside kitchen.

Other nice touches include a backup camera, an electrically-deployed entry step and a pull-out awning.

These are Australian-market only, and run about AUD $130,000 (USD $85,000).

KIAS designs a residence within Zenpukuji Park’s greenery

 

KIAS‘ House in Zenpukuji Park is located within the rich natural surroundings of the historical temple area in Suginami Ward, Tokyo. This residence began with the careful designing of living spaces opening towards the verdant landscape of the park. The ground floor houses a small art gallery open as a venue for young artists, while the owner’s living quarters occupy the upper floor. A 9-meter bench facing the park is positioned in front of the gallery, providing a social space for visitors and the local community.

The living room on the upper floor features a circular window on its eastern side, welcoming the morning sun. Natural light casts a circular pattern on the floor, shifting throughout the day. The south-facing, horizontal window, reminiscent of traditional Japanese shoji screens, maximizes the incorporation of the park’s green scenery into the living space. Afternoon light illuminates the living spaces through a skylight set into the pitched roof. Furthermore, a tall, vertical window piercing the second-floor flooring brightens the vertical circulation space within the staircase connecting the upper and lower floors.

 

Studio KIAS’ design follows the sequence of space, windows, structure, and exterior finishes. This sequence inverts the hierarchy, prioritizing space over structure and creating a pleasing disjunction between exterior, structure, and space. The result is a dwelling formed by richly composed spaces.

From October 4th, 2025, to January 25th, 2026, the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) presents Frank Lloyd Wright: Modern Chair Design, the first exhibition to treat the architect’s furniture as essential to his vision. Bringing together more than 40 chairs, many never exhibited before, alongside sketches, photographs, digital renderings, and newly constructed works, the show reveals how Wright’s furniture was integral to the environments he created.

 

The project is grounded in new research by architectural historian Eric Vogel, scholar-in-residence at the Taliesin Institute, who uncovered connections that recast Wright’s furniture as experimental and often ahead of its time. ‘When Wright rebuilt Taliesin after two major fires, he paired the new architecture with significant new and unprecedented furniture forms that were rejected by his clients at the time for their unconventionality,’ Vogel explains. To make these lost works visible again, MOWA collaborates with master woodworkers, including Wright’s great-grandson S. Lloyd Natof, to reconstruct designs that were never produced during the architect’s lifetime.

Between 1911 and 1959, Wright conceived more than 200 distinct chair designs, often tied to specific commissions but too unconventional for the clients who commissioned them. Modern Chair Design traces this body of work across five design periods, from Taliesin East in Wisconsin to Taliesin West in Arizona, revealing how these pieces served as extensions of his architectural spaces. ‘By viewing Wright’s furniture, specifically his chair designs, through the lens of Taliesin as a creative incubator, this exhibition reveals the experimental nature of his process and offers a fresh perspective on his architectural vision,’ says Thomas Szolwinski, MOWA’s Associate Curator of Architecture and Design.

 

Exhibition highlights include the first-ever construction of chairs designed for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum café, as well as reconstructions of pieces long thought lost. Loans from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, and the Milwaukee Art Museum situate these works within the larger story of American modernism. Together, they demonstrate Wright’s conviction that furniture should be understood not only as functional but as ‘living designs,’ inseparable from the buildings they occupied. ‘The Museum of Wisconsin Art is delighted to contribute new research and conversations about this iconic figure in American architecture,’ says Laurie Winters, MOWA’s Executive Director.

fungi-made prosthetic organ extracts and breaks down microplastics inside human bodies

The 79th organ digests microplastics found in human bodies

 

Fungi-made prosthetic device named 79th Organ filters, extracts, and breaks down microplastics inside the human bodies. The project takes its name from the assumption that the human body has 78 organs today, but in the future, a 79th will be necessary. Designer Odette Dierkx refers to scientists who have mentioned that in the year 2110, they imagine that the human body may need a new prosthetic organ to survive in a world filled with plastic. Enters the 79th Organ, which is made from fungi such as the Pleurotus ostreatus (the humble oyster mushroom), bioengineered to make it capable of digesting certain plastics. 

 

The core of the organ is a fungal mycelium structure, which releases enzymes. They’re able to degrade plastics through a process known as bioremediation, where microorganisms digest harmful organic or inorganic materials safely. The fungi-made prosthetic organ works by extracting microplastics from the bloodstream. Once the plastics enter the organ, they are passed through a filter lined with the bioengineered fungal mycelium, and the enzymes break down the plastics into harmless components. This turns the organ into a living detox system, processing material that the body cannot remove on its own.

The physical design of the 79th Organ is shaped like a domed capsule with internal gills similar to those of a mushroom. The device attaches to the lower abdomen with suction. At the top, there is a round magnifying glass that allows the user to see the filtered microplastics being processed. On the side of the fungi-made prosthetic organ, a dial displays danger levels to show the users the amount of contamination visible. There are three versions of the organ presented to represent different social groups in this imagined plastic-filled future, and designer Odette Dierkx lists specific examples.

 

The first is a clear factory model, designed to show the internal mechanisms, thought of as being worn by a Japanese fisherman whose work depends on catching fish contaminated with plastic. The second is a black, cracked version worn by a waste picker in Kenya, representing overexposure to plastic waste, dust, and toxic chemicals. The third is a pink customized organ worn by a young German girl who was born with microplastics in her body. The 79th Organ then responds to the global microplastic crisis, whose health consequences are severe and include birth defects, reduced fertility, cancer, and weakened immune systems. At the present time, the fungi-made prosthetic organ is a speculative design by Odette Dierkx.

What would your monograph be called?

Never Say Die. This is a direct reference to my favourite Stephen Spielberg film, The Goonies. I live by this mantra, as it shows resilience through everything in life, which feeds my creative drive on a daily basis!

What recent design work made you a bit jealous?

Pentagram worked on the re-brand for Moto GP – the way they thought about the dynamics of the logo integrating the curvature of the track, the rider, the riding angle, it just floored me! Beautiful design and beautiful presentation.

What’s an unusual place you get inspiration from?

My co-directors of course, my two boys. Having a nine- and five -year-old with neurodiversity allows me to see the world in a completely different way. I see creativity in the smallest things with their amazing and inclusive lenses.

They have a simple and clear direction for everything in life, which brings simple clarity when it comes to design. Keep it simple. It needs to make sense, tell a story and connect with you.

Name something that is brilliantly designed but overlooked.

Restaurants for sure! I love food just as much as my job, and enjoy every detail, not just the menus and logos, but the table wear, the dress code, and the plate details. It has a real creative journey for me as has so much inspiration!

I also love looking back through history. The world rotates around fashion and trends, and it really all does come back around. Sometimes we don’t need to re-invent, just celebrate what once was and allow a natural evolution.

What object in your studio best sums up your taste?

My limited edition Streets Of Rage SEGA print. I have blue blood from my years of looking after Sonic the Hedgehog, I am a retro gamer, and the game well, it connects with me as a creative Director…

Being a creative director is like stepping into Streets of Rage.

The city? That’s the project landscape – chaotic, unpredictable, full of rival agendas and creative “boss fights.”

The ex-cops? That’s your team – talented but needing direction, each with a different fighting style and creative strength.

The weapons scattered on the ground? Those are your resources – limited, sometimes improvised, but powerful when used at the right moment.

The music? Well, that ultimately keeps us alive!

What feedback felt brutal at the time, but turned out to be useful?

I won’t name the job, that wouldn’t feel right, but will name the 100 creative parameters we had to live within. No character art treatments, no editorial, no fun?

Wrong, after the team and I banging our heads against the wall, we realised that this is a little like Countdown. At first your mind boggles, but the more time you sit and look the more you see more than one answer.

We started to build layers up behind the elements we couldn’t touch and it really started to elevate the project in ways we might not have thought of if someone hadn’t tied our hands behind our backs! Creative conundrums are welcome at Fluid, we love the challenge.

What’s an underappreciated skill that design leaders need?

When we stop and listen, the room changes. Not just speaking at one another, but when we really stop to listen as a creative director, the role shifts from orchestrator of outputs to conductor of collective energy.

The work usually gets richer, the team more resilient, and the culture more inventive. Ideas no longer flow in one direction – they branch, collide, and evolve. Voices that were quiet become sparks that ignite new ways of seeing.

What keeps you up at night?

Not always the big stuff ya know! It can be something so small, I would forget about it a week later, but in that moment, it consumes me!

My ADHD brain is a storm of ideas, textures, and references – but my output is razor-focused. I live in the chaos so my work can bring clarity. I thrive in clutter, but deliver clean. That’s the creative director’s paradox. My mind is scattered; my work is straight.

I make sense of the mess so the brand doesn’t have to.

What trait is non-negotiable in new hires?

In this team, creativity fuels us – but reliability delivers us. I need people who follow through, every time.

My team are some of the most reliable people in my life. They deliver amazing work in isolation, yet can switch to be a team player in times of need beyond anything I could ever dream of.

That level of dedication is truly magical to me, and I would see that in meeting someone in the first five minutes.

Complete this sentence, “I wish more clients…”

…trusted the process. My ADHD helps me generate bold, unexpected ideas, but I need space to let them form before we edit them down.

The creative freedom I so strongly suggest in round one, should floor you for all the wrong reasons! But deep in there, is the diamond. Just got to keep digging!

MADE arhitekti’s twisting pāvilosta house seems to be carved by latvia’s coastal winds

a residential extension for gathering in Pāvilosta

 

The Pāvilosta House in Latvia, designed by MADE Arhitekti, serves as a large guest space that extends the client’s main residence located next door. Built as a place for family and guests, the house is sited along the coastline with the water’s edge and horizon beyond visible over the treetops.

 

The design team was informed both by the traditional architecture of the town and the natural forces that define its climate. The project aligns with the traditional gabled silhouettes found along the streets of Pāvilosta, while at the same time introducing a subtle geometric twist to its rooftop that seems to have been carved by the sweeping coastal winds.

MADE Arhitekti’s Pāvilosta House is located within an area of transition, between rural homes and the endless Baltic coast. The town of Pāvilosta is known as a settlement where life is shaped by close contact with nature, particularly the wind, waves, and shifting dunes. The architects acknowledge this relationship by turning a traditional roofline into a twisting vector, a movement that is intended to echo the surrounding landscape.

 

Conversations with the client emphasized the importance of atmosphere as much as program. The building responds to this through a material and structural approach that pays tribute to natural forces, with timber construction and a slate roof shaped as if molded by water and wind. The impression is of a structure that seems to gradually rise out of the rolling terrain.

At the heart of the Pāvilosta House is a large open living space designed by MADE Arhitekti for communal activity. This central volume connects to a kitchen on the northern end and expands toward the exterior with a west-facing facade. A ten-meter (33-foot)-wide opening allows the space to open broadly onto the courtyard, emphasizing the fluid relationship between inside and out.

 

Along the street-facing edge, the program shifts toward privacy. Four bedrooms are grouped in pairs, organized around two entrances that link back to the courtyard. With this layout, the architecture balances openness and enclosure, and creates areas for quiet retreat away from the main gathering space.
