Chinese fashion label Windowsen gives Nike Air Max Muse an extraterrestrial twist you’ll love

A pair of Nike on the foot represents what you believe in and how you want to be seen. Not surprisingly, then, the Swoosh brand has a deep commitment to the youth culture symbolized by the Nike in-line product collaboration with LEGO. Furthering the scene, yankodesign.com/tag/nike has now partnered with Windowsen for a pair of futuristic kicks that seem to have just landed from an extraterrestrial voyage: Not just because of their peculiar color combinations, but also for the approach the designers have taken with the motifs and other nuances.

Designed to foresee what the “future of sport could look like with Nike,” the Windowsen x Nike Air Max Muse was introduced at the Shanghai Fashion Week. It is the brainchild of Sensen Lii, the founder of Windowsen, a Chinese fashion label known for dressing Cardi B for the Met Gala 2024.

The silhouette is obviously based on the familiar Nike Air Max Muse, which has been transformed into a sci-fi artifact for the feet. The cyber-futuristic sneaker has a deep-rooted aesthetic that challenges the conventional by turning a classic into a model that doesn’t really seem from this planet, until, of course, when you wear it and feel the glorious cushioning and comfort of the Air Max tech.

Going by how Lii’s has envisioned the Air Max Muse, you can really see the ‘infusion of ‘90s rave energy and biological structures’ in the silhouette, where its emotive design really makes the shoe feel alive. In this collaboration with Nike, Lii wanted to explore the future of sports, “Not just in how we move, but in how we express who we are,” he explains. For this, the silhouette is packed with concealed design prints that morph or shift with every step.

The Windowsen x Nike Air Max Muse is loaded with extraterrestrial symbols and visual cues, including an alien-head lace charm, and prints placed across the shoe upper. You can find two-toed alien footprints concealed on the insole and also discover them on the sole. If you love the idea of an outworldly sneaker, this is where your search should end. You can pick a pair in contrasting colorway options. The two colors include Metallic Silver/Black-Rage Green-White and Metallic Gold/Chili Red-Arora Green-Racer Blue, both complementing Nike’s youth culture approach.

The sneaker has been released, and it should be available starting November 1 via SNKRS and select Nike retailers. There is no word on the price, but you can guess it to be on the higher side. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of California develop Hapt-Aids, a wearable bandage with a solar cell that can detect how long the user has been exposed to the sun. A device for health and activity monitoring, the attachable system is created to be small, light, and self-powered. It does not need charging, batteries, or wireless connections, as the system turns human activity into energy and uses that energy to send signals to the user. Current wearable devices like smartwatches can track activity, steps, or exercise, but they need charging, updates, and wireless connections and use sensors, processors, and digital systems that can make them complex and expensive. Hapt-Aids, on the other hand, are designed to be simple, low-cost, and maintenance-free. 

 

Once a user wears one, it works automatically without further action. It can be attached to the skin like a bandage or sticker, and collects energy from human movement or from the environment, such as sunlight or body motion. The energy is stored in a small capacitor, and when the stored energy reaches a set level, the device releases it through a small vibration motor. This vibration tells the user that a certain activity level, like walking distance or sun exposure, has been reached. The design doesn’t use digital sensors or microcontrollers. Instead, the amount of harvested energy is used as a direct measure of activity so the more the user moves or is exposed to energy, the more energy the device collects. Because it is based on energy harvesting, it does not need an external power source, meaning that the system is built using analog circuits that use little power.

Brilliant $0 PVC Pipe Technique Builds Emergency Shelters Without a Single Specialized Part

You know that moment when you’re standing in the plumbing aisle at the hardware store, trying to find the exact right connector for your PVC project, and you’re thinking there has to be an easier way? Well, French designer Baptiste Marx might have just solved that problem with his project called CINTRE (French for “hanger”), and honestly, it’s so simple it’s kind of brilliant.

Here’s the thing about PVC pipe that most of us forget. It can be cut with simple tools, and once softened with heat, it can be reshaped easily. Marx took this basic property and turned it into an entire assembly system for emergency housing. Instead of hunting down T-joints, elbows, and corner pieces, you just heat up the pipe itself and bend it into whatever shape you need. Cable ties, which Marx calls flex clamps, are all that’s required to hold everything together. That’s it. Curved pipes and zip ties.

The whole concept came from Marx’s work pursuing his Masters of Industrial Design at France’s ENSCI, with a background in composite materials project management. But this isn’t just a student exercise. CINTRE was developed in partnership with the French Red Cross, specifically aimed at crisis situations following natural disasters or conflicts, where sustainable reconstruction is delayed or impossible and shelter becomes an immediate necessity.

Think about disaster zones for a second. PVC pipe is a resource frequently available at disaster sites, where it can be recovered and reused. Buildings collapse, but PVC pipe can often be salvaged in useful quantities because of its wide use in plumbing and as conduits in construction. The beauty of Marx’s system is that you’re not dependent on finding specific connector pieces. You just need pipe, heat, and cable ties. Those cable ties, by the way, are a genuinely smart choice. They’re robust, economical, and easy to deploy for large scale humanitarian missions.

What makes PVC particularly suited for this is its intrinsic properties. It’s resistant to moisture and corrosion, which matters a lot when you’re building emergency shelters in unpredictable conditions. It’s lightweight, modular, and easy to transform without heavy tools or specialized know-how. Anyone who has worked with PVC knows it’s incredibly forgiving material. You can make a mistake, heat it up again, and reshape it.

The hot bending process Marx developed allows for both interior and exterior construction of shelters. Two sawhorse like assemblies combined with a flat surface make up a table. His joint designs show how basic bent shapes can create surprisingly sturdy structures. The photos of his work show shelters, furniture, and frameworks that look genuinely functional, and importantly, they offer what Marx describes as long term safety and dignity, not just temporary protection.

What I love most about this is the mindset behind it. CINTRE is not a fixed solution. It’s an exploratory project aimed at encouraging the emergence of new types of emergency housing. Its purpose is to be appropriated, adapted, and enriched by the people concerned, in order to best respond to local realities and specific needs. Instead of arriving with rigid plans and expensive pre-fab solutions, you’re giving people a tool they can adapt to their specific situations.

Yes, you could argue that traditional PVC connectors are widely available and come in every angle imaginable. And you’d be right. But that’s assuming you have access to a well-stocked hardware store and the money to buy all those specialized pieces. Marx’s system works with just the pipes themselves and cable ties, which changes the equation completely in resource limited situations.

CINTRE aspires to be part of a collaborative approach, intended as a tool serving affected populations that can be activated in various contexts. Is this going to replace conventional building methods? Probably not. But as a tool in the emergency response toolkit, particularly in situations where standard connectors aren’t available, it’s a genuinely clever approach. Sometimes the best innovations aren’t about inventing something completely new. They’re about seeing familiar materials in a different way.

Danish firm 3XN Architects takes to Australia to design this upcoming Riverside Theatre along Sydney’s Parramatta River. Developed together with Australian practices COX Architecture, Aileen Sage, Turf Design Studio, and Bangawarra, the project is envisioned as a porous and welcoming civic landmark in Sydney’s growing western centre.

 

Sited along the water’s edge, the theater’s timber structure gently twists and modulates, responding to the river’s curvature and the movement of light across its surface. This dynamic geometry and undulating facade allow the building to act as both a cultural threshold and an extension of the surrounding parkland. Pathways and landscaped terraces draw visitors from the street to the riverfront, creating a continuous public realm that blurs the boundary between the theatre and its environment.

For 3XN and COX, the design is informed by ideas of permeability and invitation. ‘The unique contextual response of the design lends itself to a distinct architectural expression and opportunity to create a building that is welcoming, porous, and permeable,’ explains Fred Holt, Director of 3XN Architects. This intent is carried through the project’s material palette and spatial arrangement, which frame multiple ‘gateways of invitation’ that open to both the city and the river.

 

Internally, the architecture unfolds as a series of volumes that vary in scale and intimacy — from a 1,500-seat lyric theatre to smaller performance and cinema spaces. The renovation of the existing playhouse into a 760-seat venue preserves a layer of continuity within the site’s long history as a cultural gathering point. Each space is acoustically and visually tailored to its purpose, yet unified by a consistent sense of warmth and openness.

This Life-Size LEGO Sim Wheel Has Moving Gears and Clutch Paddles

LEGO has given us the McLaren P1, the Ferrari Daytona SP3, and countless Formula 1 cars that look stunning on display. But there’s always been one glaring omission in the brand’s racing lineup: the steering wheel itself. Now, a first-time creator named Vince_GT has filled that void with a 1:1 scale sim racing wheel that transforms LEGO’s passive racing collection into something you can actually grip, shift, and play with.

This MOC (My Own Creation) currently sits at 141 votes with 423 days remaining to reach the 1,000-supporter threshold on the LEGO Ideas website. For a debut project from an unknown builder, that’s solid momentum. The design captures everything that makes modern F1 steering wheels fascinating: functional rotary knobs, a movable joystick on the left grip, paddle shifters on the back, and somewhere between 12 to 15 colored buttons spread across both grips like a fighter jet cockpit squeezed into your hands.

F1 steering wheels are absurdly complex. Modern Mercedes or Red Bull wheels feature 9 to 12 rotary dials and upwards of 12 buttons controlling everything from brake bias to differential settings. They’re rectangular rather than round so drivers can see over the top without their view getting blocked, with diameters typically ranging from 260mm to 300mm. Vince_GT clearly did the homework. His LEGO version mimics that rectangular profile, uses transparent dark teal accent pieces on the outer grips for visual pop, and centers everything around a customizable display panel with a prominent “N” logo. The builder explicitly mentions the display can be swapped for different designs, which is smart thinking for a toy that needs replayability.

Apart from the swappable display and the 1:1 build, the wheel comes with quite a few functional/movable parts that add to the realism. The paddle shifters actually move. The joystick articulates. The rotary knobs turn. These aren’t decorative elements glued in place for photos. Compare that to LEGO’s official racing sets, which are engineering marvels in their own right but fundamentally static. You build them, you admire them, maybe you swoosh them around the coffee table once, and then they become expensive dust collectors. A steering wheel you can hold and manipulate while pretending to nail the chicane at Monza? That’s a different category of engagement entirely.

The build uses predominantly black Technic pieces with blue pin connectors holding the structure together, then adds visual interest through those colored button elements: yellow, purple, cyan, orange, red, lime green, dark red. It reads as intentional rather than chaotic. Real F1 teams color-code their buttons so drivers can find critical controls mid-corner without looking down. Red typically means something important or dangerous. Blue might be DRS activation. Yellow could be overtake mode. Vince_GT’s palette suggests he understands that visual language, even if the LEGO version doesn’t need to communicate actual vehicle systems.

The timing feels right for this kind of project. Sim racing exploded during the pandemic and never really contracted afterward. High-end replica wheels like the Sim-Lab Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 wheel sell for £2,294 and are handmade from carbon fiber using actual CAD data from the Mercedes F1 team. Budget options like Thrustmaster’s Ferrari F1 Wheel Add-On bring the aesthetic down to enthusiast price points. There’s clearly appetite for F1-style wheels that don’t require a second mortgage. A LEGO version bridges the gap between toy and tool, giving you the tactile satisfaction and visual complexity without needing to actually plug it into iRacing.

The real question is whether LEGO Ideas will greenlight this. The platform has approved stranger things, but it also has a history of passing on builds that seem like obvious winners. The build uses standard Technic parts, doesn’t appear to need custom molds, and slots perfectly into LEGO’s existing racing theme without cannibalizing sales from Speed Champions or Technic sets. Honda’s New Electric Motorcycle Uses Car Chargers. Yes, Really.

After years of electric scooters and prototype teases, Honda finally dropped its full-size electric motorcycle. The WN7 arrived in Europe with minimal fanfare, no grand reveal event, just a quiet launch that belies how significant this bike actually is. Honda’s first real attempt to challenge the likes of Zero, Energica, and LiveWire has been paying attention to what works and what doesn’t. The WN7 doesn’t try to be revolutionary; instead, it aims for something arguably harder: making electric motorcycles feel normal, desirable, and ready for everyday riders.

Look, Honda has been infuriatingly cautious about electrification. While Harley went full drama with LiveWire and Zero built an entire brand around electric performance, Honda kept churning out perfectly competent petrol bikes and the occasional electric scooter concept that never seemed to materialize. The WN7 feels like Honda finally admitting that yes, electric motorcycles are happening, and no, they can’t sit this one out any longer. The timing makes sense too. Battery tech has matured, charging infrastructure is actually usable now, and younger riders care less about engine noise and more about not having to visit petrol pumps.

The cockpit features a proper TFT display, Showa suspension, Nissin radial brakes, and details that remind you Honda actually knows how to build motorcycles.

With the WN7, you get 18 kW continuous power (that’s about 24 horsepower for the old-school crowd), with peak output hitting 50 kW when you twist the throttle hard. Honda claims the torque figure of 100 Nm matches a 1000cc petrol bike, which is the kind of marketing speak that makes me roll my eyes, but electric torque delivery does hit differently. The motor is water-cooled, mid-mounted, and sends power through a belt drive because chains and electric motors make even less sense than they do on petrol bikes. Weight sits at 217 kg, which is competitive but not groundbreaking for an electric. The real number that matters is range: 130 km on a full charge. That’s fine for city work and weekend rides but eliminates any touring pretensions immediately. Honda knows this. They’re targeting urban riders and short-haul enthusiasts, which is the only sensible market for electric motorcycles right now anyway.

However, the wait to electrification hasn’t been for nought – Honda’s been working on interesting features in the mean time. The WN7 supports CCS2 fast charging, the same standard used by electric cars. This means you can roll up to a car charging station and go from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes. That’s genuinely game-changing for electric motorcycles because you’re no longer tied to proprietary charging networks or waiting hours for a full charge at home. The bike also charges fully in three hours on a standard 6 kW home setup, which slots neatly into overnight charging routines. Honda’s betting that infrastructure compatibility matters more than absolute range, and honestly, they’re probably right.

Pricing lands at £12,999 in the UK, which slots the WN7 right between the more boutique electric options and bargain-basement commuters, but it’s not a global one-size-fits-all story. For U.S. riders who have been waiting for Honda’s electric moment, it’s complicated: official U.S. availability hasn’t been announced yet, and as of the latest launch cycle, Honda has not committed to a North American release date or MSRP. The company’s focus is clearly Europe for the initial rollout, leveraging the continent’s denser charging infrastructure and more aggressive emissions regulations. Globally, the plan is to expand availability to key Asian markets – expect Japan and possibly Thailand to get early access, with local pricing adjusted for currency and taxes.
