MG Raiser Doubles Up Your Manga Shelf Without Hiding the Back Row

Bookshelves quietly go from single row to double row, especially for manga where volumes multiply quickly. The front row looks great, the back row disappears behind it, and you end up playing memory games to remember which volume is hiding behind which spine. Collectors accept this as the price of a growing library, even though it makes browsing and rearranging annoying and means half your collection is essentially invisible unless you pull out the front row.

MG Raiser from MangaGuardian is a tiny shelf adapter that takes that double-row habit and makes it less painful. An Artist Carved His Dead Oak Into Records That Play Bird Songs

One thing that the world has been learning the past few years is that people deal with grief differently. That’s why we can never judge how people react to death of loved ones, beloved pets, other living creatures, and even life changes. Artists and creative people in particular sometimes have profound ways of honoring whatever it is that they have lost.

When a 65-year-old oak tree in Steve Parker’s front yard died from a fungal disease called oak wilt, he wanted to create a tribute to this tree that served as a refuge for migratory birds in their area. What he created was a sound sculpture, a record player that could play actual discs with bird songs, a fitting honor to the life and legacy of the tree.

Parker cut the trunk of the diseased tree into “wood cookies” or cross-sectional slices. He then carved grooves directly into the discs to create playable records. He then built a victrola or record player that is specifically designed to play the wooden records. This player is placed on a pedestal and the round tree slices are displayed on the walls behind it.

What plays on the wooden records is equally special. He etched the songs of migratory birds that once nested in the oak tree. You hear a scratchy, wooden sound which actually reminds you of that branch that would hit the side of an old farm house, which can be nostalgic or creepy depending on your experience of it.

Creating these wooden records wasn’t easy. Live oak is notoriously difficult to work with because it cracks as it dries, and many woodworkers avoid it entirely. But Parker saw those imperfections as part of the piece’s authenticity. Those cracks and warps in the sound aren’t flaws, they’re features that honor the tree’s natural character even in death.

But the wooden records are only part of “Funeral for a Tree.” Parker also created a companion sculpture called “Sheng Shrine”: a plant-like, valve-driven instrument built from salvaged brass valves from euphoniums and trumpets, copper tubing, and breathing bags. What makes this piece particularly moving is what animates it: CPAP machines and ventilators, the same medical equipment used to help people breathe when they’re ill.

These breathing machines give life to discarded Chinese shengs (mouth organs). The sheng is traditionally associated with the phoenix, and the word itself means life, voice, and sound in Mandarin. Parker collaborated with sheng virtuoso Jipo Yang, who interpreted the bird calls and performed short compositions around them. The sounds you hear include the clicks of tiny relays, the grunts of air pumps that almost sound like snores, and the wheezing as air pushes through the reeds. It’s mechanical yet deeply emotional.

There’s another layer to this work that makes it even more poignant. Parker realized that his grief for the tree echoed the loss of his father to cancer. Both were slow, inevitable declines where care could not prevent loss. When his father was really sick, Parker’s family monitored his breathing to assess his comfort and sense where his body was going. Those CPAP machines and ventilators in “Sheng Shrine” carry those memories. They’re devices associated with life support, transformed into instruments that give breath to dead instruments playing songs for a dead tree.

What makes “Funeral for a Tree” so powerful is that it’s not Steve Parker performing a requiem for the tree. It’s the tree performing its own memorial service. The wood itself becomes the instrument, the bird songs it once sheltered become the music, and the breath that once rustled through its leaves is replaced by mechanical breathing that keeps the dirge alive.

In transforming something most people would haul away as waste into a functioning musical instrument, Parker reminds us that grief doesn’t have to be silent or passive. Sometimes the most profound way to honor a loss is to let it speak for itself, to give it voice and breath and let it tell its own story. In doing so, he’s created something that transcends the personal: a meditation on memory, loss, and the ways we try to hold onto what’s gone.

It’s either brilliantly practical or completely unnecessary, depending on how often you find yourself needing both a dead phone and a voice memo at the exact same moment.

The real question is what market Ugreen’s actually targeting. Dedicated AI recorders like Plaud and Limitless offer superior transcription and integration with productivity tools. Meanwhile, power bank buyers are mostly obsessed with capacity, charging speed, and MagSafe compatibility. Ugreen’s product sits awkwardly between these worlds, somehow simultaneously targeting both the serious note-taker as well as the charging purist. Maybe that’s the genius: creating a category where none existed, or maybe it’s just feature creep with good intentions.

This new AI version will almost certainly cost more, probably around $120 to $150 if I had to guess, which puts it in direct competition with premium power banks that offer higher capacity or faster charging speeds. Not to mention most AI services do come with the looming threat of a subscription fee at some point. Imagine subscribing to a power bank…

Jokes aside, the bundling makes sense if you’re the kind of person who carries too much stuff and wants to consolidate. A journalist running between interviews could theoretically use this to charge their phone while recording background audio for articles. Students might appreciate having one device that keeps their laptop alive during lectures while capturing notes they can summarize later. But these use cases feel niche, and niche products need exceptional execution to justify their existence. Ugreen hasn’t shown us that yet. The company has a solid track record with GaN charging technology and their NASync NAS series crushed it on Kickstarter with $6.6 million raised. They know how to build hardware. Whether they can build software that makes voice recording feel natural on a battery pack is the real test.

This Pencil Sharpener Spins Like a Top and It’s Pure Genius

You know that moment when you find a perfectly ordinary object that someone has completely reimagined? That’s exactly what happened when I stumbled across Ferfereh, a pencil sharpener designed by Maryam Fallah that’s basically a spinning top in disguise. And honestly, it’s the kind of design that makes you wonder why no one thought of this before.

Let’s be real for a second. Pencil sharpeners are usually the most boring things on your desk. They sit there, doing their one job, looking completely utilitarian and forgettable. But Fallah decided to flip that script entirely. What if your pencil sharpener could also be a desk toy? What if the simple act of sharpening your pencil could bring a little joy to your workspace?

The design itself is pretty striking. Picture a spinning top with those gorgeous, swooping curves that make you want to reach out and give it a whirl. Fallah spent six months developing this as a student project at Haute École Arc in Switzerland, studying industrial design engineering. And the process? It’s honestly fascinating. She explored tons of different shapes, from what looks like traditional spinning tops to more abstract forms, even some that resembled swans and other playful figures. The sketches show just how many directions this could have gone.

The final design landed on that iconic top shape for good reason. It had to work as both a functional pencil sharpener and an actual spinning toy. That meant getting the engineering just right. The sharpener is made of two main pieces that screw together, with a reservoir inside to catch all those pencil shavings. Simple enough, right? But the tricky part was making sure it could actually spin properly.

Through 3D printing prototypes and testing, Fallah discovered that the weight of the metal sharpening mechanism and its position affected how well the top would rotate. The pencil and sharpener weren’t symmetrically placed inside, which threw off the balance. Even the slope and overall shape had a major impact on performance. So she dove into actual engineering equations used for spinning tops to optimize the design. After multiple rounds of prototypes, she landed on a form that spins beautifully.

What I love about this project is how it challenges our assumptions about everyday objects. We’ve been conditioned to think that tools should look like tools, that function and fun are separate categories. But why? Your desk is your creative space, your thinking zone. Why shouldn’t the objects on it spark a little delight?

There’s something refreshing about seeing a designer take a mundane object seriously enough to give it this much attention. The photos show Ferfereh sitting on a clean, modern desk next to notebooks and glasses, looking completely at home. You can imagine giving it a spin while you’re thinking through a problem or just taking a mental break. It transforms a routine task into a moment of play.

Airstream World Traveler 22RB Travel Trailer is specially designed for beginner RV enthusiasts

A 22-foot camper trailer is an ideal size for maneuverability. It can be compact yet have just enough space for a decent time on the road. Airstream has, therefore, gone with this comfortable living size for its new World Traveler, which the Ohio company has built from scratch to be lightweight and aerodynamic, so anyone, including those just starting with towable adventures, would want.

Billed as a “launchpad for starting your own travel adventure,” the Airstream World Traveler 22RB Travel Trailer is crafted with the similar riveted aluminum that Airstream trailers have been sustaining their image and distinction with since 1931. Its construction and size ensure the 22RB is light and compact so as to be haulable by mid-sized SUVs, crossovers, and presumably by select EVs as well.

Arriving in 3,700lbs base weight and up to 4,500-pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), World Traveler 22RB Travel Trailer is only 7.5-foot wide, maintaining a slim profile for a comfortable drive on the road. As it’s slim and not overly long, an even beginner RV adventure can easily maneuver this behind their drive.

Size may be limited, but its spaciousness is not compromised. The Airstream 22RB is prepared for a total of four persons to live comfortably, courtesy of a rear V-shaped twin bed and a convertible dinette. What the company has done differently here is that the air conditioner is relocated from the roof and placed under the bed to make the trailer appear more streamlined.

Of course, the exterior is pretty Airstream, the interior is uniquely done. The walls are white, and the woodwork is not starkly different either. The cabinetry features a light laminate finish. The minimalist interior is different from the usual offerings, and this uniqueness is highlighted by the V-shaped twin bed in the main sleeping area of the trailer. Up front, a secondary sleeping area can be instantly setup at the dinette, which converts into a bed in a jiffy.

The daytime living experience inside is naturally maintained via dual-pane acrylic windows furnished with an integrated screen-and-blind system. The side entry into the trailer leads you first into the galley kitchen, which is provided with a two-burner gas cooktop, a mini fridge, and enough counter space for preparing meals for up to four people. Adjacent is a wet bath with a shower and toilet, both separate for residents’ convenience.

Standard options like heating and cooling are taken care of with a ducted facility, while the Airstream 22RB is furnished with a 24-inch smart TV, Bluetooth JBL speaker, and internet facility. All in a comprehensive price tag of $68,300. The 22RB Travel Trailer is available now, and if you want it ready for an off-grid adventure, Airstream is providing add-ons such as a 300W solar charging system with a 2.5kWh lithium battery for power, a microwave, a backup camera, and a specialized V-shaped bedding kit for living convenience.

Sony’s Upcoming Portable PS6 Aims to Challenge the Steam Deck and Switch 2 in 2027

Sony’s portable gaming attempts have followed a familiar pattern: innovative hardware held back by baffling compromises. The PSP had one analog stick when games clearly needed two. The Vita added that second stick but inexplicably skipped analog triggers and clickable thumbsticks, forcing developers to map essential controls to an awkward rear touchpad. The PS Portal finally nailed the controls by essentially splitting a DualSense controller in half, then rendered the achievement mostly irrelevant by making it stream-only. Project Canis, the rumored PS6 handheld arriving in 2027, needs to break this cycle.

The fundamentals look promising this time. Reports suggest full PS4, PS5, and PS6 compatibility with proper docking functionality, which would position it as Sony’s answer to both the Steam Deck and Switch successor. The recent PS5 low-power mode appearing in firmware updates telegraphs Sony’s strategy clearly: get developers optimizing games for portable performance now, before the hardware officially exists. With AMD’s APUs getting more capable and the handheld gaming PC market proving there’s demand for portable power, Sony actually has a clearer path forward than they did with previous attempts. The question is whether supply chain realities and component costs will force them to compromise again.

Sony recently added a power-saving mode to PS5 games that scales down graphics and frame rates, supposedly for energy conservation. But here’s what’s actually happening: they’re teaching developers how to optimize their games for weaker portable hardware before that hardware even exists. When Project Canis launches, every game with this low-power mode already has a built-in portable profile ready to go. It’s Sony creating a standardized “handheld mode” years in advance, which suggests they’re genuinely committed this time rather than half-heartedly supporting another doomed experiment like the Vita became.

The design remains anyone’s guess at this point. Concept images floating around Behance show sleek interpretations of what a modern PSP could look like, though these fan creations obviously don’t reflect whatever Sony’s industrial designers are actually cooking up. What we do know is that the PS Portal’s controller layout works beautifully, with full-sized analog sticks and proper trigger feedback. If Sony keeps that ergonomic foundation and adds actual processing power inside instead of relying on cloud streaming, they’d have something genuinely compelling. The Portal proved they finally understand that portable controls can’t be compromised versions of console controllers, they need to be the real thing.

The 2027 target might actually work in Sony’s favor despite the RAM shortage threatening to push prices up or launch dates back. Handheld gaming has exploded in ways nobody predicted five years ago. The Steam Deck created an entire category of expensive portable PCs that people happily bought. The Switch keeps selling despite aging hardware because portability matters that much to players. Sony entering this space in 2027 with a device that plays God of War and Spider-Man natively, then docks to your TV for the full experience, feels less like another doomed experiment and more like arriving exactly when the market’s ready.

The backwards compatibility angle could be the real hook though. Running your entire PS5 library on the go would be compelling enough, but reports suggest potential support reaching back to PS1 and PS2 through emulation. Imagine having decades of PlayStation history available on one portable device, from classic JRPGs to current blockbusters. The Switch has proven that players will rebuy old favorites for portability, but Sony wouldn’t need to resell anything if they nail backwards compatibility. Your existing library just works, from launch day classics you bought fifteen years ago to whatever drops next month. That’s the kind of feature that turns a neat gadget into something you’d actually carry everywhere.

Talking to phones and smart speakers in public still feels awkward. You either whisper to your wrist or say “Hey Siri” out loud on a crowded train, and everyone turns to look. Pulling out a phone just to check a notification breaks whatever you were doing, and making big hand gestures to control earbuds turns you into the person air-conducting an invisible orchestra on the sidewalk.

Dribble is a concept device that tries to move those interactions onto your index finger. Designed by Kangmin Park, it is a tiny pill-shaped module that clips onto a ring-like band, turning your finger into a discreet remote for messaging, AI, health, and payments. Instead of wake words or screens, it relies on small taps and glances, handling quick tasks without broadcasting that you are using tech.

The interaction model is straightforward. One tap triggers a core action, two taps go back, and a long press activates multi-step tasks or Dribble AI. A hidden under-display camera and motion tracking help the device understand context without sticking a visible lens on your hand. The idea is that you can reply to a message or jot a note with a tiny movement that barely anyone notices.

Picture hanging onto a subway pole while tapping your finger to send a “running late” reply, or cycling with your phone zipped away while a double-tap starts navigation. In a meeting, you could long-press to capture a thought without opening a laptop. These are short interactions that keep you from constantly pulling out your phone for every notification or small task that pops up.

The narrow display wraps over the top edge, showing just enough information, a line of text, a heart rate, or a small card from Dribble AI. The concept includes AI cards for notes, search, work assistance, health, and small payments, all designed to be read in a second or two. It feels closer to a whisper from your devices than a full conversation, which suits the tiny form factor.

Dribble is meant to be worn as a ring most of the time, but it can also hang from a necklace when you do not want anything on your hands. The pill shape and muted colours push it toward jewelry territory rather than gadget territory, which matters if you are going to wear it all day. It shows the designer is thinking about how it fits into outfits and habits, not just operating systems.

Dribble hints at a future where we talk less to our devices and tap them more quietly instead. It does not try to replace phones or watches. It just imagines a different layer of control that lives on your finger, somewhere between jewelry and interface. Whether or not this exact product ever ships, the idea of invisible input riding on tiny gestures feels worth paying attention to.
