Marvel’s First Family is finally making its way back to our screens in what is hopefully a triumphant comeback with the Fantastic Four movie releasing on July 24. You can expect numerous brand collaborations for promotional materials and official merchandise in the coming days, so if you’re a fan of Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing, you’re in for a treat.
If you’re also a fan and collector of G-Shock watches, you’ll be pleased to know they’re releasing a new collection featuring four white-and-blue timepieces inspired by “bold science, fearless exploration, and unstoppable durability”—qualities synonymous with the Fantastic Four. Each of the four models is engineered with shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, and heatproof and freeze-proof designs, as if you’re actually facing off against Galactus and Silver Surfer.
Designer: G-Shock
All the watches are designed with a retro yet high-tech aesthetic featuring space-age innovation that would look right at home in the movie, at least based on the footage we’ve seen. The design philosophy clearly draws inspiration from the optimistic futurism of the 1960s, when anything seemed possible and technology was viewed as humanity’s greatest ally. Instead of the flashy branding typically seen in tie-ups, we get a sophisticated white-and-blue palette across all timepieces with subtle details and references. They feature multi-layered dials and mechanical detailing that showcase functions like world time, timer, stopwatch, and alarms. The clean, scientific aesthetic mirrors the laboratory precision that Reed Richards would appreciate, while maintaining the rugged durability that Ben Grimm would demand.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the watch collection is the blue phosphorescent face that creates a mesmerizing glow-in-the-dark effect, emitting a gentle blue luminescence that pays homage to the cosmic energy associated with the Fantastic Four. This isn’t just a superficial aesthetic choice—the phosphorescent material is carefully integrated into the dial design, creating depth and visual interest that evolves throughout the day. During daylight hours, the blue accents provide a subtle contrast against the crisp white base, while in low-light conditions, the transformation is truly spectacular. Meanwhile, the integrated LED light ensures the watches remain perfectly readable even in complete darkness, providing a backup illumination system that complements rather than competes with the phosphorescent glow. This dual-lighting approach demonstrates G-Shock’s commitment to both form and function, ensuring that style never compromises practicality.
These aren’t merely standard G-Shock watches with superficial branding. The Fantastic Four editions come with exclusive 1960s-inspired packaging and collectible Fantastic Four pin badges, adding genuine value for collectors. The collection represents a refreshing departure from typical movie tie-in merchandise, offering authentic functionality and thoughtful design rather than superficial branding. And as previously mentioned, should we face an invasion from space, perhaps these watches can keep you safe—at least until the actual Fantastic Four arrive to save the day.
