It began as a simple respray, but ultimately evolved into a full visual redesign. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/car-design\/\"><strong>car<\/strong><\/a> is now defined by its black-to-gold gradient, a finish that seems to blend into the desert landscape where it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/tag\/photography\/\"><strong>photographed<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After 40,000 hard-driven miles across road rallies, Londy\u2019s car had lost the gloss of its factory black finish. A new coat of paint and a full protective film (PPF) set the foundation for what was to become a must larger project. As Bland recalls, \u2018<em>That\u2019s when he realized he could make the car something special by way of a vinyl wrap<\/em>.\u2019 Working through dozens of renderings, the pair landed on a diagonal gradient \u2014 black at the nose fading to gold at the rear \u2014 echoed across the Fuchs wheels with matching powder-coated tones. Seen from the front, the 911 reads as pure black. From behind, it gleams gold.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>There were easily fifty or more final designs we could have gone with<\/em>,\u2019 <strong>Londy says,<\/strong> \u2018<em>but the gold-to-black fade stood out. It wasn\u2019t just unique to our renderings, it was unique to the air-cooled Porsche world here in LA<\/em>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>images \u00a9 Webb Bland<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wow wow-yellow\">a hidden tribute to the teton range<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notbland.com\/\"><strong>designer<\/strong><\/a> Webb Bland\u2019s refinements of the 1984 911 is a small detail that connects the Porsche to Londy\u2019s past. Etched within the windshield banner is a topographic outline of Wyoming\u2019s Teton Range, as a subtle nod to his hometown of Jackson Hole.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>Within the topo banner is the Grand Teton along with its elevation of 13,776 feet<\/em>,\u2019 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nicklondy\/?hl=en\">Londy<\/a> explains.<\/strong> \u2018<em>There are other fake elevations too: my dog\u2019s birthday, the old Cardinals stadium zip code where my dad grew up watching Stan Musial, and my late father\u2019s birthday. You wouldn\u2019t know they\u2019re not elevations, but they\u2019re meaningful to me.<\/em>\u2018<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The layer of memory embedded in the gradient and the hidden map transforms a classic car into a personal archive. The surface becomes a coded record of the owner\u2019s life and memories.<\/p>\n<p>Webb Bland designs and photographs a custom 1984 911 with a black-to-gold finish<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wow wow-yellow\">a porsche 911 to reflect the red rock desert<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Webb Bland\u2019s involvement in the Porsche 911\u2019s redesign went beyond concept development. Once the car was complete, he photographed it in California\u2019s Alabama Hills, a place chosen for both its dramatic red rock landforms and its warm sunlight. \u2018<em>I love the concept of a car matching its surroundings in tone,\u2019 he says. \u2018At first and last light, it becomes something really special<\/em>.\u2019 The gold wash of sunrise across the granite outcroppings mirrors the Porsche\u2019s fade, each reflecting the other\u2019s warmth and texture.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The resulting images render the car within a shifting landscape rather than as an object set apart from it.
