Most corners in our homes are basically architectural afterthoughts, collecting dust and maybe the occasional spider web. They\u2019re the forgotten spaces that never quite know what to do with themselves, stuck between two walls without much purpose. It\u2019s funny how we spend so much time designing the rest of our rooms while these little triangular pockets just sit there, completely ignored.<\/p>\n

Traditional wall clocks have always been stuck on flat surfaces, which makes perfect sense until you realize how much unused real estate those corners represent. Finding the right spot for a clock often means compromising on visibility or competing with artwork and furniture for prime wall space. Meanwhile, those corners just hang out, doing absolutely nothing useful.<\/p>\n

Designer: Bas van der Veer<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Bas van der Veer\u2019s Corner Clock flips this whole situation on its head with a brilliantly simple idea. Instead of politely sitting on a wall like every other timepiece, this clock cheekily peeks around the corner, making itself visible from two rooms at once. The double-sided design means you can check the time whether you\u2019re in the kitchen or the living room, all while the clock occupies space that was previously useless.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The design follows van der Veer\u2019s philosophy of creating maximum impact with minimal fuss. There are no numbers on the clock face, which sounds like it would make telling time harder, but actually makes the whole thing more versatile. You can mount it in any orientation or rotation, and it still works perfectly. The installation couldn\u2019t be simpler either, requiring just one screw that pulls the clock snugly into the corner.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Right now, the prototypes are made from PLA using 3D printing, which is perfect for testing and small runs. But the real plan involves scaling up to injection molding for mass production, keeping costs low while using very few different parts. This approach makes the design accessible while maintaining the clean, minimal aesthetic that makes it work in modern homes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

What makes the Corner Clock genuinely delightful is how it transforms a completely overlooked architectural feature into something that actually adds character to your space. It\u2019s playful without being gimmicky, minimal without being boring, and functional without sacrificing personality. The clock doesn\u2019t just tell time; it starts conversations and makes people notice parts of their home they\u2019d never really thought about before.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The beauty of van der Veer\u2019s approach lies in recognizing that good design often comes from looking at familiar problems from completely different angles. By questioning why clocks need to live on flat walls, he created something that\u2019s both practical and genuinely fun. The Corner Clock proves that sometimes the best solutions are hiding in the spaces we\u2019ve been ignoring all along, just waiting for someone clever enough to notice their potential.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
