And now, according to Latino corners of Facebook and X (formerly Twitter),<em> la chancla<\/em> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41599-020-00558-z\">mythological<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Aphrodite Used La Chancla<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Recently, an image of a Greek vase from around 360 B.C. went viral on Reddit, then took off faster than a kid hearing<em> \u201c\u00a1Ya vas a ver!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The vase? It shows none other than Aphrodite, goddess of love, holding what appears to be<em> la chancla<\/em>, threatening her son Eros (a.k.a. Cupid). Forget arrows and roses. This goddess, and apparent disciplinarian, brought the real heat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you know that the traditional mother\u2019s threat, using the back of her slipper, is as old as Aphrodite and her son Eros?\u201d the Reddit caption reads, accompanied by a photo of the ancient vase that instantly sparked a cultural earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>From the comment sections of Facebook pages to the threads on X timelines, the reactions have been pure gold:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven the Greek gods weren\u2019t safe from<em> la chancla.<\/em> We\u2019ve been warned for centuries!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis confirms my abuelita\u2019s power was divine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext, we\u2019re gonna find out <em>la Virgen<\/em> had a backup chancla under her robe.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the Chancla<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A <em>chancla<\/em>, or <em>chancleta<\/em>, is a slipper or flip-flop (typically rubber or plastic, usually old and slightly bent from years of use).
